Many moons ago I found bigger exhaust, extractors and improved air inlet made a heap of difference on my old petrol guzzler Cruiser.

Thanks @Drover I think I will do some serious research on exhausts only had the one quote from an ARB store
Was hoping for some info On chips as its a bit of a minefield out there. But I could end up with A snorkel and diff breathers very soon . Next year I think the GIbb needs to be revisited but want to get up to Kalumburu only been up there once and I need to go back :) Only thing is mid break school hols are only 2 weeks no where near the time needed. I need 3 months :)

Ok for all the gas heads out there ( Thats propane gas :) Not the Holden Ford type :)

Toolbox will be either finished today or Monday so some busy days ahead for me.

been reading a few others who have moved the gas bottles and the regulator.

Does the height of the regulator matter ? Seems some confusion over this!

I would like to have my regulator low at the rear of the box ( van side) this way it is out of the way from damage and using the box.

My barbies are both different and seem to function well One has the regulator at the bottle down low the other has the regulator at the barbie up high I guess they are both higher than the bottle though!

I was thinking if it was low but still had the loop in the line lower than the regulator to catch any moisture it would be ok?

I have no clue about this and thought if someone has done all the BS finding out they could just tell me (Being lazy)

Anyway will have some exciting pics soon hang onto your seats :couch2:

Hey @Stephen Galvin the gas regulator needs to be above the bottles to stop liquid getting into the reg and stuffing it (or something like that, but yes they need to be above) My 2 bobs worth would be try the exhaust and air cleaner/snorkle and see what happens, with high milage I would be a little sceptical chipping it, cheers.

As DRW said, regulator must be above gas bottle valve or the liquid gas will stuff it good and proper. Any exhaust place would do a better deal on an exhaust that way it's usually tailor made for your vehicle, extractors a must, a Steinbauer chip would be the shot but you really must have them and the engine tuned to match especially an old one, needs to be checked out properly, compression etc an off the shelf plug an play unit is not the best thing for an engine thats long in the tooth. You may find a run on the dyno at a diesel specialist will show up a worn pump, lazy injector etc which a chip won't improve on.

@DRW and @Drover Been on the net all day looking at Exhausts and chips . WOW talk about a minefield OF crap to wade through.

Three exhausts seem to look very good Beaudesert, Manta and Taipan Manta being local to WA and a bit cheaper Taipan look fantastic as well. I am Going back to ARB to get some more info but might get a Kwinana performance to do it as they have a Dyno so we can see real proof plus the Manta system is about 400 bucks less than Taipan.

Thanks about the regulator not sure how to go about this now. You have ruined my idea about the super neat hidden fit up :)
When I get the box on there Im sure i will work it out. Maybe pull the box forward just a touch and still get it behind we will see.

Thanks again

Can you do extractors on a TD. Isn't it just a dump pipe straight out of the turbo???

Yep Dump Pipe

Going to go with the Taipan and Safari Snorkel probably even get a K&N filter as well ( keep the paper one for really dusty roads) Taipan just seems to be of a better standard and the sound is awesome:)
Getting the car checked over and injectors done in a weeks time going to give it a good degrease and clean so we can see any oil leeks ect It has come the time to show some love to the old girl.

May even get some new Window tint and seat covers as well :):) But budget is now over stretched unless someone can give a definite winning short term stock trade HAHAHA

:focus:

Box wasnt ready today and I was also getting some oxy cutting done for the wheel holder (main plate for wheel to bolt onto as square looks unprofessional and that wasn't done either.) So this weekend is servicing reels and rods. making sure kayak is all set up for fishing. Move some wiring off the floor at the rear bed compartment . And maybe some multirotor stuff after Netball. :)
Need to also get a number plate light and wire that in for the back bar as well.

On a wheel carrier I made once I used a bore top plate, the bit that sits on top with the plumbing thru the middle, mine was stuffed so bought a new one, only $15 from Ag shop and used the old one on the carrier just had to drill the holes for lugs, very sturdy and gal to boot. Just recently picked up a led number plate light from supacheap $15 that was the cheap one the Narva was $30, be buggered.

Ok An Update
Got all the gear now as picked up the plates I had the corners rounded for me with an oxy as A grinder was going to take forever Although At 10 bucks a corner almost I should have used the grinder!!! Honestly $70 for 8 corners to be rounded by free hand!! Anyway I wont lose sleep over it but WTF!

Picked up the tool box Awesome job better than expected The way they did the hinge on the lid is awesome as i don't lose any space so can go up hard against the van well will leave a 10mm gap. Only issue is when i sat it there it was 45mm to high some how my drawing that said 500mm high and my notes saying the height was critical didn't seep through!! back to Mandurah and they had it done and repaired by the arvo but 3 trips to Mandurah and back was no in the plan today. So didn't get as much done as i would've liked.

Anyway big day planned for tomorrow before the wife goes back to nights. First is the wheel holders As doing one for Cheyne as well. then the tool box.

Some pics

Looks good @Stephen Galvin
Won't reply to your email now ;)... Looks like it was worth the trips back to Mandurah and back!
If I wasn't so impatient and had an extended draw bar would have gone down the same route as you and had the box modified to fit the gas bottles outside.... But then again probably would end up with a heavy ball weight with all the junk I'd put in there :o

Don't forget about the little hiccup I picked up on the sketch of the wheel holder when you fit it!

The great thing about this box is it is only 500mm wide and the ends angle back so the bottles are a bit further put but not forward. Check out the clearance to the Jockey wheel . My drawbar is the standard drawbar.

looks like gas fittings will have to go on the front of the box though if I am to keep it above or level with the bottles. Need new lines as well may get flex.?

@dagree yeah I got the email so am on it in about 10min time will check it all before welding on to trailer. Going with a jerry holder on the back as well. This will fit under the bed base so doesnt need to be hinged or jerry removed.

@DRW Bit cheeky :)
I am old and slow now Will take me a week to recover from todays effort :)

Im nearly 50 Life is just about over :) Thats why I got the van so I could enjoy my last days :hurt-41:

Theres a bit in these especially when working with a cordless drill and 4" grinder The Poor Old Ryobi had a good workout. Bloody impressive bit of kit though.

Hi guys what do guys use as annex matts ? And best place to pick them up? I kind of like those double layer ones as the sand just falls back through but the a bit pricey!
