On our recent trip. the patrol towing the 17.56 used on average 18l/100km, getting as low as 16 and as high as 20. Overall considering the head winds and the weight of the van, I don't think it is too bad.
Had a chat to some fellow cravaners from Qld, while in the ridge towing simialr weight vans and they too were getting around 19l/100 with their Pajero diesel. So I don't think mine is too bad.

We have 2.5 manual triton an average we get returns of around 16-18lph,towing in forth, snorkel and 2 3/4 exhaust, had a chip from a well known company and without any change in driving fuel went to 19-22 lph ,egt's went through the roof (the best way to kill a diesel) and heaps of limpy's
No more chip for us

On our first trip to Paradise Valley, towing the 16.49 OB, with our 2007 Landcruiser Sahara V8 petrol auto, we got as high as 22.5L/100 kms. The roads were very hilly and windy and I could see the guage going higher and higher with the manual gear changes. We used the manual gears through the hilly parts and it appeared to tow better. We usually run at around 15L/100 kms.

2011 Land Rover Discovery 4 - 2.7 l Turbo Diesel
2011 Expanda 18.57-9 OB with simplicity suspension which raises the height to 3100mm (wind Sail)

Latest trip I used km's off speedo and litres at pump rather than onboard computer to calculate economy. I found the computer varried by some 2.5 litres compared to actual, although I understand from other many car companies have their computers under report fuel use.

Running a van weight of 2565kg (weigh bridge) and 3 people in the disco over 3700km we averaged 20.1 litre per 100km. I'm not a light footed driver and have been known to overtake slower vehicles when safe to do so and travel at 100km/hr according to GPS or 107km on vehicle speedo.

Final piece of info is the ECU remap I run is from Bluefin and I opted for power not economy

Towed our 16.49.1 with the 2.2ltr Turbo-Desiel Santa Fe (only the 5 speed auto version), traveling from Adelaide to Sydney we average 12ltrs/100klms.
This was at an average of about 100kph. As with almost everyone else, it felt it going up the big hills along the Hume, other than that it was a good drive.
Have just ordered a Renault Koleos, 2.5ltr petrol with the CVT gearbox, it will be interesting to see how this goes with the towing. We are keeping the Santa Fe as a back-up if the Renault is not up to the job.

Thats very impressive, did you stay at the C/P?

Yep, we stayed at doon reserve in yarra junction, just a short drive from home for an overnighter.

Have since taken the van thru the hills a bit and we hover around the 17/18 lt per 100 mark. Have recently fitted the WDH and absolutely love it.

We have a Landrover D3 V8 towing an Jayco Expanda 17.56.1 that weighs about 2100 kgs, we haven't had the van long and only been down south once and a little north once. The highway is very good and quite flat, I sat right on speed limit whole way, while at 110km/hr locked it in 5th gear (its a 6 speed auto). The exact fuel economy was 21.179 l/100kms on the way down and the computer said 21 l/100kms, on the way back we got 17.055 l/100kms and the computer said 22 l/100kms. Also took my hand held GPS and when the car was showing 110 km/hr on the highway the GPS was showing about 107 km/hr. Hope this helps.

07 Prado D4D 6 speed 17.56.2-OB 3 adults 2 kids, all the crap you take with you, 2 water tanks and on our trip to Cairns so far have averaged 15.6ltrs/100. That's with normal driving at the speed limit 100kph or 110kph with hills, overtaking and very strong headwinds. That's the worst we have gotten so far no matter how hard pushed over the last 2,200klm's so far so am over the moon with those figures.
Best to date has been 13.54ltrs/100 with about 300k's without the van traveling around Cairns but the rest with the van in tow. :)

First Trip in the Disco;
4960 km for 800 litres so 16.0 l/100. Probably about 4200 of the that was towing, but I didn't give a hoot about economy, just getting to each stop as quickly (yet safely) as we could. So sitting comfortably on 110kmh, happily overtaking etc etc. (When forced to go a bit slower (80km/h) waiting for a chance to overtake, the instantaneous would drop to around 14 l/100)

the one tank refill which was about 1/2 not towing returned about 12 l/100 (which is about what I get around town normally)

Not as good as Motos above, but I'm happy, :yo: and could do better if I cared.

So just picked up the van and from Forbes to Canberra averaged 16.3 l/100 sitting on the speed limit (mostly 100kph) without the van I got 8.5 l/100 for the same section. I did tow from Nyngan to Forbes but the trip computer still had the data from the trip up so that distorted the numbers, also there was a lot of 110kph on that section. Around town without the van it can go as low as 7.3 l/100
