I'll be very interested in this thread - it may help determine a change of cars.
This is in the back of my mind too.

I'll keep the Cruiser for the local stuff and may look at something different for the bigger trips if I can just stretch the budget.

Thanks everyone its good to compare different combinations and get some real world feedback :clap2:

Has anyone chipped their cars and if so, how has it affected fuel economy?

No chip but have added gas to diesel. On our WA trip when the gas stopped working the Navara turned in 14.7 l/100km for the trip (which includes time without the van) for over 18,000km. My previous trip to Townsville with the gas working used 11.9 l/100km diesel and 3.2 l/100km of gas.

Very happy with that.

I have an 08 200 series TTD and I get about 13l/100 around town and about 14l/100 with the van. No chip or exhaust. Yet. Let's face it tho I didn't buy a V8 for fuel economy.

We just did a return trip of 600km puling the 17.56-2OB sitting on the speed limit or better and mostly through undulating country and steeper climbs (Liverpool Ranges and Warrumbungles). Avg. (NS Pajero auto/diesel) consumption turned out to be around the 19ltr/100km. With a lighter right foot I might be able to pull that figure back to 17.5 or 18ltr/100km, but it still makes for a very short trip between fuel stops. Pulling the SwanOB we avergaged about 15/100 and on the flats out west pulled this down to 12.5/100.

Mate I added an auxiliary tank to the Paj, mines 60litre but if you don't have rear A/C you can get a 80litre. It's awesome, allows me to choose when and where I fill up with 150 litres onboard.

The 2.5ltr Turbo motor in the Triton on the recent trip from Bundaberg QLD to Forster NSW 2200KMs sucked 16ltrs/100. Spent $493 on fuel at a average of $1.51.9 Diesel. Vortex Diesel would've given me better mileage. But you know those Woolworths servos that sell VORTEX are a bit tricky to get into. Caltex sites we tried to pickup Vortex but mostly we just had good old Truck Diesel.
I was very impressed with the mileage.
I am sure if there was high winds, that mileage would be out the door.

Waht is the sticker on the back of the Expanda? is it a 80 or 90 speed limit sticker?

Nice pick up Micko. It's a 90 Speed Limit sticker. To advise other motorists not to sit on my ass. It seemed to work when I needed to use it. I had no rude gestures pulled at me. Most of the time I sat on 100 - 105km/ph. The hills proved to slow me down a bit.
Cheers

Our petrol 200 cruiser averages 20ltrs/100 on most trips gone as low as 17/100 and as high as 23/100, depending on conditions.
We decided to go for the bigger landcruiser mainly for space, saftey and comfort. Fuel economy was a consideration but we put it down our list, as at the end of the day I would prefer to arrive with happy wife and three kids.

Thanks for the update TweedTravellers on the petrol 200 series I'd be happy with that economy too. As you said its a bigger car with plenty of space too. :thumb:

I was just wondering what economy people are getting out of the T/D 200's? Towing and not towing.

Has anyone got a Mitsubishi Challenger a 2010 onwards?

I was wondering what economy a T/D auto would get towing an Expanda, Thanks in advance :thumb:

8,000k round trip to Uluru, Kings Canyon etc with 17.56-2 towed with 3L GUiii auto patrol averaged 17L/ 100 km.
Recent 2800km round trip to Blue Mtns with ford territory auto with same panda averaged 18L/100km.
Both trips include some travel without van but didn't seem to alter the average.
Does a bit better on short trios to norhtern nsw - less hills!
Regards
Geoff

CD, someone with the recent 2.5 T/D Auto in a Triton might be a good indicator for you too, same car essentially.

Yeah just thought I'd put it out there too see if there was any difference between the two :thumb: your right the Triton is a good yard stick to compare though
