15.7 l/100km overall for bit under 800km trip to Balmoral in Western Victoria and back. Mostly with full Expanda, full dual water tanks and gas bottles, three adults in Pathfinder. Cruising between 95-100. Quite a few rest stops each way, and bit of van-less roaming (100k) on local roads/dirt road/off-road. Happy with mileage/power mix. Less happy with diesel at 163.5c in Balmoral.

:boink: I thought I'd revive an old fuel economy thread after a couple of years sitting idle (pun intended) :banplease: in the background.

A few of have replaced our tow vehicles since this thread begun :)

Finding we get a stable 21-22l/100km with the Panda behind the diesel V8 LC200. Normal highway in 12-13l/100km without the van.

Much the same overall economy wherever we have gone - Qld via Newell, Adelaide, Lakes Entrance, Queenscliff, etc...

We (1) do stick to the speed limit of 100 or 110 and do overtake slower vehicles.

Worst was 24-25l/100km when we did the Bruxner Hwy from Byron Bay back to Clunes-Lismore - slow going through the hills and national park.

Typically have full 90lt water tanks, full 150lt fridge, full Engel in back of Cruiser , bull bars, winch, etc. family of 4.

Van ATM 2,467KG

I'm shore we will be averaging 26 to 30 litres per hundred km to today when we travel to Denmark with our Jayco Expanda Outback 16-49.3 with the lancruiser petrol v8 towing this will make you guys happy about your fuel economy.

Ouch... A bit like our previous tug - a petrol 5 cylinder turbo Volvo XC90 towing the horse float. Shame it could not tow the Panda! Its like watching the fuel gauge move faster than the tacho...

Just recently did a bris - canberra trip with the rels doing all the back roads. Lots of up and down hills. Found sitting on 90 ish as that's what the relatives sit on for better economy (petrol pathfinder) we got about 14.6ltrs / 100, although hated it as it felt so slow and hated holding up traffic at times and having to pull over to let people past. When we left them and sat just over the limit no matter what it was, we got 15.4ltrs / 100. So for the faster speed over the whole 3800 k's would have used about 30ltrs more fuel. Now for the sake of about $45 -$50 over the whole holiday and for my sanity I think I will still stick to the way I usually travel and sit on the speed limit.
Not only did i have to mainly run in 5th gear as the revs were in the wrong range sitting on 90kph but it also made it slightly harder work going up big hills as you were traveling slower when you hit them so couldn't maintain a higher speed going up them.
Overall, gotta be happy with either of those figures towing the panda with all our crap in it, 2 x full water tanks, 180 ltrs of diesel in the car and 3 adults, 2 kids.

Brisbane - Northside (North Lakes)
When we had our 17.56-2, with a weight of about 2500kg we averaged about 25 / 100, this was a returned trip Bris - Syd with our V8 100 series petrol. We changed tow car to a LC200 Diesel and got down to 19/100, I was pretty happy with this gain. As we upgraded to a full height van that is also longer and heavier at about 3300kg loaded we now get about 24/100. This was on the return trip from Melbourne in horrible weather and a head wind.

We only tow at the speed limit, and take it easy with the larger van. So given the weight, i am happy. Hate to think what it was with the V8 petrol.

Didn't even contemplate working out our fuel consumption when we had the V8 Cruiser...... Didn't want to know ;)
But i must admit.... I do miss the power though! OH and as @bigcol says.... The comfort also :)

Just finished 12500k's in the Patrol. A lot better than we thought 17.5 l per 100k's.
Three months away we were absolutely chockers, both the van and car.

17.6l/100 in the bt50 coming back home to perth from tassie. That was doing about 80km just out of port aguster and near the bite getting 30l/100 into a head wind but doing 95-100 and a few patches of 110 with a tail wind. Tried 90km/h but used less doing 95-100.

Overall averaged 16.15 for the 22K trip around Oz back in June/September. Best 13.77 Wilpena to Port Augusta Worst 21.01 Belladonia to Mafura Pass. Sat on Speed limit all the way. Headwinds suck.

playing in the forrest
day trip to Busselton
playing on the beach

I averaged 16.9l/100

I tried sitting on 90Kms on the way down - out of Perth
was soooooooo annoying
so I was sitting on 100 for the rest of the trip
