There's no denying the triple bunks are tight and nope kids can't sit up in them. But we looked at a couple of doubles and whilst they could sit up in them now, a few more years I don't think they will. So the current thinking is that the triple bunks will be fine for them for sleeping in, but more research will be required. It's a different mindset for the Big Lap than for our current van use. What is suitable for 1-2 week stays is a different kettle of fish when you are talking about living in for 6 months.

Couldn't agree with you more @Smergen , we had a triple bunk van and none of my 3 kids could sit up in bed. The bottom bunk was essentially on the floor too. My oldest was 9 when we bought it and she fitted into the middle bunk but in the 2 years we had it by the time she was 11 she was quite tall and struggled to climb in. Hence why we now have the Expanda. She (now almost 17) gets the rear double to herself and the boys (14 and 11) get the bunks. Triple bunks are great for small ones, but they grow up quickly................

Interesting feedback @Matty4, our oldest will be 9, then 7 and 6 when we set off... We want to move away from pop tops for the big trip for more space and flexibility for storage. I'm also not sure I want to spend 6 months climbing over the boss to get in and out of bed, so investigating the island bed options. We love our Expanda, just thinking of practicalities with life on the road.

Checked out some new vans at Bundy, some are very nice but others no bench space at all, if using the stove youv'e only got the sink, no wonder people spend heaps on a Weber and outdoor cooking stuff..........my 14.44.3 has more bench space than some 5th wheelers.
At least the build on Jayco is consistent underneath is still a shambles just like mine.
Decided to keep our little Tardis after the price tag was waved in my face......................................but then if they offered me $32,000 trade I might be tempted.

As you have 3 little smergens maybe a dual bunk and chuck a kid on the dinette each night...I keep thinking triple bunk and dinette..
Its hard my kids do not want me to get a triple bunk as the eldest sit up on their bunks to escape from twins.. Although the twins can get up there now so they stuffed :) Although if wet all of them can sit up there.. I still like the basestation.. Sarah still does not :)

Nup. Not going to set out and pack up a bed each night of the trip. Mrs Smergs put her foot down on that one.

Hijack over. :)

I had a nice little score yesterday. My neighbour got 2 trees cut down and said I could have the wood. So 2 1/2 trailer loads later I have this little pile to split.

What did we do on the weekend??????

Saturday......
Spent time collecting a few things to:
1. Permanently mount and wire in the satellite decoder and cabling inside the TC cupboard.
2. Fit a couple of compartments (Document Trays!!!) in the same area as the decoder to hose chargers, computer chargers etc and one for magazines/books.
3. Mount a jockey wheel clamp and S shaped stainless pipe to the rear bar for transporting the sat dish
4. Fit a 600W 12v to 240V Inverter for charging laptops, windows tablets etc while of the grid.

Sunday.....
Spent time inside due to the weather watching AFL and looking out the window hoping the skies will clear so the above list can be completed!!!!!

Maybe next weekends post will be confirmation that the above list gets finalised!
