Whoooooo, we now have our first mainland trip pencilled in with the Discovery. Scetchy plan is to travel across the nullarbor to Kalgoorlie then head nth to wiluna west again to Meekatharra then nth up to Newman , check out Karajini before heading nth east to Kununurra for a couple of mths
We lived in Kununurra for awhile and love to get back there. Plan to pick up a couple of days work while there.
At this stage we hope to leave June next year and get back to Tassie September sometime.
Looks like ive gotta get the last few mods done before then. All I want to get done are a stone guard for front of van, under van wiring/plumbing protection, fit new springs and make up a filtered pressure air system into van to keep dust out.
Ohh, can not wait

Finally got round to fitting a external TV mount and power supply. I wanted a plug that had both a 12v outlet and TV antenna plug in one but couldn't find what I wanted here. So I purchased a Narva plug with a 12v cigarette and merit plug in it. I drilled out the merit plug and fitted a TV antenna plug to it. I just need to get some colour coded white paint to finish it as the match isn't very good.

I also fitted a LED strip light along the side of the van.

Have also painted most of the chassis and rear bumper now too, just need to drop tanks out and paint behind them. Chassis was wire brushed(hand and angle grinder with cup wheel), under coated and painted with hammer tone metallic paint

Finally my electrical track turned up today. My plan was to use this under the van to run all wires/pipes in to protect from stone damage. This stuff is pretty strong, has holes already in it to let dirt/small rocks fall out and allows me to zip tie wires/pipes down to stop chaffing.
Its only a trial fit here but think its going to do a great job
Sorry about pic. quality, was getting abit dark.

@Moto Mech I couldn't begin to tell you how many hundreds of meters of this stuff I have used over time, I had the exact same idea but have been too busy (read lazy) to do anything. Great to see someone thinks along the same lines, cheers.

Thanks Motomech I just spent a terrific half hour or so reading this! I'm a Sparky by trade who loves to fiddle and learnt a lot of tips, top work. Curious as to the initial purchase cost and budget so far, if that's not a rude question?

We all love brand new vans but you have made a great van with just a lot of common sense and some skill. I have done a lot of work on an old hard floor camper with water and power etc and enjoy being productive too. Good luck with the big trip, we'll be watching with interest.

Cheers John

Cheers guys. Hopefully we can get plenty of use out of it this summer.
Shock horror........the Jayco will be staying home next year and we'll be tenting it, yep tenting it. Some of the places we want to go will be very hard on the van, Great central road, old gun barrel hwy, poking around the pilbra Gibb river rd up to kalumburu etc plus any other great spots we find.

Just read your thread for the first time , great work, nothing more satisfying than having a vision in your head then creating it with your hands. Great work
