Well that just went too quick.
Had a week down at Coles Bay, where we had very strong winds for half the time and then the other half split between rain and sunshine
Moved on to Diana's basin near st Helens where we encountered gale force winds, was worried we were going to blow away. Even ran some ropes over the top of the awning to help hold it down.
From there we moved on to Dora point where again we copped wind and rain but Got a bit of spear fishing done here and got chased out of the water from the biggest ray we've ever seen, at least 5ft across.
Got home on Thursday and with a fine weekend forecast we packed the roof top tent and swags and headed of for Narantapu NP(bakers beach) where we had awesome weather.
And of coarse now back at work and we get hit by a heat wave :(
Van was perfect, a few more thing to do, get the right anti flap bar ends, fit a water tap to draw bar and add some water tank gauges.

What are you guys looking at doing? Free camping or caravan parks?

Both mate, but prefer as much free camping as possible. We are set up with shower, toilet, outback van with two water tanks and two gas bottles. portable solar panels and 100 AH AGM battery. Actually have no real plans except we will probably have 3 nights in Devonport to settle in after the run down to Melbourne from the Gold Coast.

We are open to suggestions as to which way to run around the island but we will probably do the west coast first. We would like to lay up in some place with the van for 3 or 4 days and radiate out to places from there, then move on. I don't know if it is OK to leave the van unattended in free camp sites or if we have to do caravan parks to leave it.

We have to get some work done on the van first. The roof struts are shot but our repair place has slotted us in early February to get them replaced. Have also almost finished a new rear bumper to carry the spare so that will go on next week.

Looking forward to getting out there in the van again. :D

Ok, well if you want to settle in and relax, id suggest driving about 1/2hr from Devonport to Narantapu NP and camp at bakers point, some fantastic camping there. Modern drop toilets and water(not drinkable), beach side camping.
Up around the nth east coast, some fantatic camping around croppies point(waterhouse conservation reserve, free camping with drop loo's, no water), petal point, mt william NP has about 4 nice camp grounds, policemans point, bay of fires, dora point, dianas basin, lagoon beach, mayfield bay to name a few great spots along the coast.
Bridport, st helens, coles bay, bicheno, swansea, port arthur, bruny island etc. for paid camping gee, most places are great.
Id suggest getting a NP pass from the gift shop on the spirit, saves trying to get on once of travelling.
West coast is great, maybe unhook van at strahan and explore the coast granville hbr and trial hbr, then theres the inland lakes, central plateu .
If you come through Chudleigh, call into the workshop on the corner( only one corner in chudleigh :) ) and say gday. Also free camping at the cricket ground here or nice caravan park at Mole Creek

Not much happening with mods lately, have fitted a inverter to the inside, put gas struts on front boot lid and purchased new aussie traveller anti flap bars for awning(van was supplied with these but short ones, needed long ones)
Had 10 days away in van over easter, had a ball, only had 1 sunny day whole time so had to fire up genny after 5 days to top up batteries(down to 55%).
Coming home from St Helens we had a stiff wind blowing which had us struggling to do 80kph on flat roads at times(mrs fzj80).
Interesting note, mate came along with us in a HDJ80 towing a Jayco swan offroad van with two onboard. We had 6 onboard our FZJ80 towing our van. Overall for whole trip we used 25lts more fuel(about 500kms) Pretty happy with that.
We leave next Friday for our 3 month trip around Australia but van stays this trip, tenting it. Cant wait. Blue line proposed route

Hey guys, we are now back home in Tassie, having covered. 16500km
Trip was cut short 2 weeks(family reasons) so it was a rush in the end
Boy oh boy we would have loved to have our van from Newman on(4 weeks on)
Had a fantastic time, can post up pics if want but it not caravan related.
