Cheers brad
is your rear bar standard as the 17 series is the round steel (not rectangle like yrs appears to be)
am thinking i will have to have a whole new bar made up so it can all work
Zerosector (i think that's right) makes them and sells them, they look really good
i can weld but not good enough for that Mod!
i am thinking now that i should just get my van delivered to your place when its ready and you could get straight to work on it!!!!!
it would save you having to answer all these questions constantly!
besides, you will be bored soon with nothing else you could possibly do to your rig :)

Hi mate, don't mean to hi jack this thread but be carefull what you put on the gal bar as it's only about 2 - 2.5mm gauge. If your thinking of a bike rack I'd go 4mm.

Cheers.

If you are tossing up between a new bar or the gal, then you are more than welcome to drop by and have a look at what I have done if it helps.

appreciate the offer. Again i think im going to have to wait until it arrives B4 i can get stuck into it!
its going to be a busy few weeks come late Feb!
may take you up on that then if that's OK still?
Thanks for the dimensions of the box also, im wondering if i cant stroll into page bros one sat with two gas bottles under my arm and see if i could measure it all up
i guess the only prob is finding one with the extended draw bar!

I need to correct myself here, it's actually more like 3mm wt, I checked it yesterday!

Hey Burnsy
You asked me in a previous post how quicker does the pipe work drain when sullage hose is connected.
Well we are up at Warburton for the weekend and I reacon a sink full of water drains twice as fast.
Gotta be happy with that!!

While I was away I wanted to knock off a couple of mods.

We do a lot of weekend trips. Which means setting up in the dark. I wanted to add some lighting to the compartments.
Bunnings was clearing out these for $9 each.

I also purchased a couple of junction boxes and small switches. Here is the switch screwed into a junction box before I wire it up.

Wiring completed.

And here is the entire unit mounted in place behind the hatch of the front compartment.

I have done the same thing on two other hatches. I just have my toolbox on the front to go.

Top mods Brad. That's a credit to you for sharing all of your hard work and R and D... One question, why did you go for a 1700 wide front box when the van is roughly 8" wide (2400mm)?

Cheers,
Clayton.

Welcome to the forum Clayton.
Because I went for a thinner gauge metal I was concerned how much flex I may get the further the box extended away from the frame. So I made a judgement call that the 1700 length wasn't too far past the frame.

Thanks Brad.
We're still tossing up between the 17.56-2 and the 18.57-5. Both have pros and cons for our plans. If I went to the full width box, and an extended draw bar on the 18, would it affect the turn circle (back up into tight area). My plan is to do a complete roll out outdoor kitchen inside the box to allow meal prep outside as well as inside as the plan is to do a 12 month lap with the Wifey and 2 kids, 4 and 2. Going to the Brissy camping show next month to do a walk through both.
