As posted previously.....

I worry about the tendency to fill the space, add on what you can, and try to replicate home rather than experience the camping experience.

It all adds to weight....and problems.

But I'm getting over it. If you want to tow a huge load and are mindful of what you are doing, go for it!

If not, I'd rather avoid you on the roads.

Not directed at anyone here...you are obviously careful....but at other idiots we see on roads all the time.

@Pace be interested to see what your Colorado 7 is? I have seen a few different figures although did not see anything on holdens website.

@Dobbie and thats why I am checking and doing sums now. We have 3 water tanks.. I want to see how it effects ride emptying the front one.
We also put the weber in the tunnel boot now thinking maybe under dinette might be better.

Yeah I know you where not.. Funny or not so funny since I got a van I notice vans more and see some going down the road and shake my head.
Even though the Disco weights more then the 22.68 I still felt it push the car a few times down a hill, did not notice this with the 17.58.
The whole do you travel with water full or not probably another debate :) Happy with the 3 tanks when we start free camping, although going to parks not sure I need water in all of them.

I'm starting to feel paranoid about the weight of each item we add.

Can just see me sitting outside supermarket or bottle shop...or Aldi ...with a set of scales and sending items back.

Ouch!!

So we looking to see upgrading the Disco to a 7 seater which can tow 3000kgs
Now correct me if I am wrong the Tare of the tug is without fuel and you add on the towball weight to the payload correct?
Our Towball 280 and add 80 litres Diesel 70kgs. so 350kgs

You look at Tare, GVM . add the 350kgs
D3 2486 , 3230 have 390kgs payload left after fuel.
Mux 2060, 2750 leaves 360kg .. 15l already in tank at Tare add 50kg fuel
Coloradoo7 2205, 2820, around 295kgs left for payload
Fortuner 2135, 2759 Around 265kgs left
Everest 2407, 3100 around 343kgs left
200 series 2630, 3350 around 370kg left

You need to drop the towball down a bit to load the tug up.. Or am I missing something? And all of these have 300kg TBM apart from the Disco/cruiser 350kg.
you left out 100 series as they have more than the allowable weight than the 200 series this thread is getting full on for now my tanks are always empty just a bit in them

Did say to Sarah we should buy a ex Army Landy 6x6 and put the kids in the back :)

We've debated the water tanks full or empty. We drink a lot of water and coming from Melb (worlds best water) we suffer when the local water isnt what we are used to. Bit precious I know. The single tank in the 16.49 was ample for us for drinking water, but we didnt travel into the heat of the outback, nor did we have the shower on board that we have now. I wouldnt consider routinely using the shower in our outback trip, but last years xmas run up to QLD included quite a few roadside overnighters, and the ability to have a quick shower was bloody awsome ... but without the water on board, only awesome in theory.

Travelling around the c/parks of populous east coast you could easily get way carrying no water at all or picking and choosing when to top up. But (this is a question for those that have gone before) outback/western travel would be much more difficult to travel and manage water with expectation I can simple grab some water whenever I please ??

We travel with ours full, helps get through the garage ! no actually, just in case we have issues with connecting water, if away a night or 2, we don't bother connecting the water and just run off tanks.

with the 17.58-1 with 2 tanks and only a sink I did not connect up water a lot of the time :)
Now with three tanks and a bigger van wondering do I just fill the rear and empty the two front while going to parks.
Or empty the front one and leave the 2nd and third full to balance out.
The more I read the more I want to move everything closer to the axles :)

It would depend on your ball weight Dave. Your van should sit nice at around the 250kg mark, so maybe use the tank closest to the centre day to day, then use and adjust the contents of the other two to keep the balance only as you need to carry more water

Ball was around 290 when I did it after we got back from Merimbula. ATM 2780 so I expect the ball to be around 270.
Although how mad do I go.. Thinking of moving the Q200 back in the van from the tunnel as well.
So maybe I empty the front two.. need to get under and do the front one first.
The front two are plumbed together and the rear is seperate

I can give you some tips if you would like to re-plumb the entire van o_O
