Lara, very nice and neat mods.

Re: the the step ladder, we place ours behind the front lid along with the foldaway clothesline (they seem to get grubby and leaving them external worked out better for us).

We also done the same for holding up those access lids into the compartments, thanks again CR.

Cheers Pace.

Clever Pace, step ladder and clothes line behind the lid, I like it.
I tell you that space behind the hard lid definitely comes in handy!

And we're back!

Had a great trip to Crescent Head and Port Macquarie. Other than a couple torrential downpours at night, one in Cresnent and one in Port, the weather was beautiful and we enjoyed every minute! Andrew and the girls surfed as much as they could, and Andrew was surfing up to 3 times a day. He started bribing the girls with extra pocket money for massages, he was so sore at night from all the hours spent surfing!

The Expanda went well, only one maintenance issue to sort out now were home, nothing major but I will be sealing the sail track for the awning. I have to say that we didn't just have a drip through the track and awning seam, was more like a mini waterfall when the rain was pelting down. In between the first downpour and the second I had bought some wax sealant to put on the awning seam which definately helped but still need to sikaflex along the sail track to make it 100% water tight!

Good news, the canvas bed fly's worked a treat and we are really happy with our decision to get them. Even in thunderstorms with heavy driving rain and strong winds the internal canvas mattresses and bedding remained dry and we slept like babies not having to worry about wet bedding!

The custom mattresses were also a welcome addition and couldn't have been more comfortable. Only with sunny days of 25+ degrees and nights dropping to 8, there was condensation under the mattresses so I may invest in some aero mesh or similar to get some air circulation underneath. Now that we have the new mattresses I want to look after them!

So all in all a very successful first decent trip in the Expanda. I look forward to getting back into the forums now were home!!! Looks like I've got a lot if catching up to do!

Glad all went well. I'd have tried to pass off the awning seam leak as a water feature. A pce of beeswax (or at the moment my beeswax boot treatment) in the "odds and ends" draw comes in handy.

Ha, I like your thinking XF, water feature OR who needs the amenities block when you can take a shower under the awning instead! ;)

Yep, seam wax is now a permanent addition to my toolbox! And have just this arvo been on the roof of the Expanda having a Sikaflex frenzy. While up there I've spotted a few other places that need re-sealing. Would have done it at the same time but ran out of daylight, so it's on tomorrow's job list!

Well there's no going back now!

Yes, I am attempting to reupholster the lounge myself :noidea:........
I just can't live in a brown/beige world, I need colour in my life. So out with the brown and in with the green!
The fabric I have chosen is a Warwick heavy duty commercial upholstery fabric. It will stand the test of time and looks so great with the cupboards, curtains and flooring in our 16.49-1.

I spent many hours in this last week deconstructing the back rests to start with, and 1 thing quickly become apparent.
Jayco use way too many staples to secure the fabric to the back boards. If you want RSI (repetitive strain injury), then removing all the staples would be a good way to get it! I removed a staggering 781 staples. I don't know what's worse, that Jayco go overkill with the staples or that I counted them.........

I have mentioned this attempt in another thread, but for those of you that haven't read about it, I have zero sewing experience. My sister has dropped her sewing machine off tonight, still in box I might add, as she can't sew either. We had a good laugh trying to figure out how to thread the thing and the bobbin thingy too.
Hmmm, there could be a lot of this :frusty: this  and this :help:. But I do love a challenge!

What do you think RidgePanda and 17triton, no mucking around here!

GOOD LUCK :D At least you'll be able to use the old fabric as a template!

Thanks Jacki jacbaz
Having the old fabric as a pattern will be very handy, and really without it I don't think I'd be trying to do this myself.
I love blues and greens, very calming and beachy. Because our doona's are already blue, I went green for the lounge.

This pic is of my sister earlier tonight dropping off the sewing machine, yes true to word still in box! I wasn't gonna post it, because if she knew I posted a pic with her in it she'd kill me, seriously.....
But you can see from this pic the colours I like, blue and green, I love the coastal look. So thought why not make the Expanda more like home!

You were right earlier, it's a female thing! There will be plenty of male forum members shaking their heads and shrugging their shoulders over this one! ;)

your very strong willed Lara, good on you, even though you mention you have zero sewing experience. when i went on the factory tour, from what i saw in the fabric section was all precut material stacked up in their respective cushion/ backs or in fills with chalked line around the outside showing where to sew. as for the zippers, these were allready glued on the material from which were sewn through as the pieces were put through the machines. again good luck. pace.

Thanks Pace, So even with no sewing experience, sounds like I could still get a job at Jayco! :bounce:
I was quite surprised at the amateur standard that the back rests are put together, you'd never know looking at them, but once you take them apart.....Hmmmm......, looked like a year 6 school project...

Happy sewing Lara, just watch your fingers or that could be the end of the Expanda mods :)

I remember at high school one of my mates sewed his fingers together :o
