As mentioned on another thread The Jeeperific has been replaced by Henry, a 2020 PX3 Ranger XL to be precise, a poverty pack with 81,000km on the clock and its just magic to drive and work on, today is Day 6 so its been modified and bits pulled off to have a look, given a full service, new tyres and today a Tow Bar was fitted, truly a pleasure to work on, very few annoying sensors and other rubbish to cover people who can't drive ......................

It was a clean skin rig, no tow bar and the only extra a CB and a hard lid on the tub, first up was a service, the gods were smiling and I landed the specials so $200 covered it, of course it said in the book it had been serviced about 150 odd kms ago, yet the air, fuel and oil filters looked more like 15,000km ago following the earlier stamp, notice the difference and it would have been a sad affair if Id let it go longer ............ Ford says 15K km for a service, it will get 10K km and the tranny will soon get done, 150K or 200K km is just BS in the extreme, get done in a couple of weeks then every 40K, this one will get a Thermo valve changed so it won't cook.....
New rubber yesterday and I picked up a tow bar today and spent all afternoon fitting it and wiring it up, proved the brain is still functioning as even though I knew by looking underneath the bumper had to come off and be adjusted nothing in the instructions but you expect these things, really needed 2 people to do it but my mates older than me so I just had to use cunning, probably quicker anyway ........
Wiring was so easy, it would want to be for the price of the plug and play harness and being a poverty pack no annoying computer resetting rubbish ............. and it all worked first go............................

Next up is run the fridge power cable and power for the brake controller along with a short run to the box under the seat to connect up to tow plug...... Steps, Mirrors and a Scangauge are in the mail so more shed fun next week............ might even get to hook up Big Mal to see how it all sits, I hope good as I don't want to do the springs.

Henry is evolving into a magic tow rig ...........................

PS: in my service check over , I found some bugga had swapped out the spare and replaced it with a unused earlier version, dated 2012, mongrels so at the tyre change got the best mangy one fitted as a spare also someone had chewed the wheel nuts, probably used a 21mm socket when should have been 19mm, I manage dto reshape them so I could replace with new ones ............ never take anything for granted always check for your self and save a surprise....

I may have said it before but this time I mean it "I am never doing anymore wiring on a vehicle ", run my van power lead to the back and wired up the electric brakes, mainly just power to the controller and then a short run to a plug under a seat, took me ages to get it to run under the dash and making a bracket for the 80a breaker for the van power ............... Now I can have a break for a few days before the side steps get here, the mirrors ended up nil stock so 2 wees till they arrive....................... then we will be ready to roll.....................................

No we won't looks like a new hitch needed or maybe springs ??????? Tug is about 15mm lower than van hitch, bugga, I knew I should have bought an adjustable job last year ............................... thats a static measure, have to get it all hooked up on concrete to get a better idea but I think it will be low, tug should be 20-25mm higher for a nice set up................... old unit no good either, beside don't want the WDH back on, too heavy......... as usual new springs more than likely needed but no lift this time around, bride has enough trouble getting in .....

Well its only money, bought a nice, new shiny Stinger hitch for the Jeep back in January, a great bit of kit but it doesn't have the height I need for this Henry, new adjustable hitch arrived, looks pretty, I can pick it up without needing a crane............. once these damn mirrors arrive we can go for a test run, my luck it will be a trip to Pedders for some standard height rear springs, I don't want anymore lift........... hope not but its on the cards...

Is the stinger hitch alloy? What drop does it have? I’ll buy it if it suits my Henry since going with larger tyres the van sits up now

The new Centurion Hitch is quite good to set up, Big Mal hooked on and tucked in behind quite well, will need to do a Tranny fix, swap out the Thermal Valve and sort out the stupid Tranny cooler set up on these things, a set up just like an oil cooler, bluddy stupid idea, why they can't just slot a separate cooler for trannies and eng oil is beyond me, they have a degree that must also includes a CDF delet I'm sure, not just Fords most other brands as well... why do easy and sensible when we can do complicated and stupid................... Rant over............

Thanks Ian
My standard hitch is around 110mm, I’ve been looking at their longer one do you think I could fit my stone stomper to it? Where did you buy the adjustable hitch and what financial damages did it inflict? I’m saving up for something

I bought the adjustable from the same mob as the stinger who imports them, https://blackjacktrailerjacks.com.au/product/centurion-hitches/

I did a hundred measurements to make sure I got the right one, mine I spent $325 on the 150mm unit.. if you scroll down the page , click on specifications they have detailed drawings of measurements for all three models so you can measure the van hitch height and tug, add about 25-30mm to the van height and that will give you the approx height you will need for the tug ........... To make sure mine where close, I stuck a ball into the van coupling and measured from the bottom of it and measured from the top of the shank on the tug to ground to get my levels, added 30mm to tugs so when van dropped on it was about level...

Postage is free, well you don't have to add anything to the price should I say, ordered Mon morn here on Wed arvo, so no stuffing around and they will talk to you......... comes with lockable pins as well..
