Once more, slowly for the Austrian guy.
Not recommending the 17.56.2 in combination with a Navarra D40 4cyl is because of weight issues or lack of power?
WEIGHTS
As I am very grateful for your advices, but I want to know more about the mystery of car+van+weights.
(I guess it's handled differently here in Austria)
Nissan's Navarra D40
GVM of 2805 kg
GCM of 5910 kg
Leaves roughly 3000 kg for a van

17.56.2 Outback
Approx Tare: 1950kg
Approx ATM: 2400kg
POWER
I am not expecting to be piloting a rocket around a Australia, we are in holidays and not un the run.
BUT if that combination is not getting me anywhere because I will ruin the car to a wreck within a couple of weeks, than I rather upgrade.
Otherwise I am quite happy driving on the slower side of life. Like some other guys are happy with that combination.

I am not stuck on the particularly Navarra or Hilux – I just want to understand your thoughts and ways you make decisions.
Because at the end it's me spending an awful lot of money and driving around in an environment that I am not used to ;-)
Probably the same as you would feel driving on snow and ice ;-)
I guess we all want the same. An amazing but safe experience in that fascinating country!
I appreciate all your comments, thoughts and suggestions.
Drive safe, have a great time and a cool beer ;-) Cheers!
(if we ever meet, the next beer is on me)
