Hi Dave, our daughter is looking at a 2011 diesel Jeep, Grand Cherokee Laredo with 134000 on it. It seems it is the same model as yours but I am not sure whether to ask your opinion as I am pretty sure I know it, but what is the tow capacity? The seller says it is 3.5 tonne but the specs say 2.268 tonne. They also say it is a 5 speed auto, is this right? I have arranged to look at it Thursday morning but I am skeptical. There does not seem to be a happy medium, either like you and a few other forum members love them or people talk about all the problems they have. I guess I could spend the dollars for an RACQ inspection but even they are not foolproof. I guess I’ll check it out and form my own option. :o
Have two WK 2s 2012 diesel Overland also now 2015 SRT ,plus one 2010 WH diesel, all diesels rated 3.5 ton for towing on paper, not that you should tow 3.5 tons.Thats another story for all so called 3.5 rated vehicles. The 5 speed auto is in two of the vehicles ,had no problems both done around 180000ks with NO problems.SRT as do 2013 WKs on have the 8 speed ZF box just about bullet proof.I would make sure the vehicle has up to date service records.Especially auto,tc case, diffs etc. Most people who bag Jeeps have never owned one.Have a look how many WK2s tow caravans now,! Best bang for your buck in the market.Comfort, fuel economy, power.

@chartrock one thing I didn't mention if she does get it find a good mechanic to do the servicing, the engine is the same as mine though an earlier version a VM Motori engine so Fiat and the gearbox is the Mercedes 5 speeder a very good box, just don't use a dealer good mechanic for engine stuff and a specialist shop for thiings like brakes , tranny etc always a better job and better price, I think that applies to all vehicles really.

Good advice from D,I change 5 speed atf every 30000ks as do a lot of towing. Also check coolant has colour .No colour means coolant needs changing asap .Think Jeeps are bad ,New Rangers oil pump failures in gearboxes ,twin turbos with problems,Toyota Hilux utes engines with multiple DPF recalls now class action.LC 200 s with injector ,high pressure injecter pump problems. I repeat what I said previously ,at least make sure all services are up to date.

Read what I said again @Boots in Action ,I'm talking about contributions not when you convert your super to a pension and having fought across the table many times about Awards and EBA's as one of the employee's reps for over 20 years I do have a good grounding on the subject....

The ultimate word on Super Guarantee taxing https://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/super/growing-your-super/adding-to-your-super/tax-on-contributions/#:~:text=The super contributions you make,as an income tax deduction
No problem with what you say @Drover. Having had only AFTER tax deductions for my super throughout my working life, is why my super contributions were not taxed at 15%.

Met a guy last year in a caravan park who cut hair ,his wife did massages, both had a small sign outside the van.Told me flat out in every park he went to !Not a bad tax free lurk.!
OMG. If being retired makes it acceptable and normal to get rubbed up by some old muncher in a caravan ... retirement maybe a very nervous time for me.

Are there any other super creepy pastimes i should know about, you know, just so I dont get the bejesus frightened out of me on a daily basis.

Hey @davemc , in the paper up here "Travellers returning to Queensland from overseas may be forced to quarantine in remote worker camps, under a plan being considered by the State Government." an idea thats been floated in comments since the start up here, far better than military bases in many ways but now watch for the screams of concentration camps etc..................
