Thanks Jimmy, that helps but doesn't help if you know what I mean. I'll tackle this job in the next week or so, gotta do it before we use the van next.

Yeah I get it. You may be able to come up the wall. I am not pulling the speaker off and doing the hatch for a little while yet. But when I do I will see if I can get a wire up there.

Hi all have just started to monitor this post, have not been on the forum for a while after deciding on the 17.58.3 over 17.56.2. I have been really busy selling camper trailer and getting good trade for current van on 17.58.3. Prices differ from Jayco Dealer to Jayco Dealer. Finally found one who was willing to do business and we are ready to sign. I knew that the earlier models had a window over the kitchen and now the window is gone, I hadn't counted on the kitchen sink and stove swap. Thank goodness for this forum would have been a nice surprise ordering van and looking in the door for the first time seeing new location of stove and sink.

Does anyone know if there is legislation that has forced these changes? Or is it Jayco just playing around? Goodness alone knows whats next. Thank goodness it is not physically possible to swap the floor and ceiling positions

Hi Terri

I strongly suspect that legislation forced the window over the sink to go. As for the sink/stove swap, I think it's commonsense. Everybody I have spoken with prefers the later layout.

Hi, @achjimmy I hope my wife likes the new layout, if not we might have to go on the hunt for a older dealer stock van, my only concern then is could the old layout become illegal and cause a heap of heart ache getting it modified. Would definitely have to check that before purchasing old stock.

Seeing I do not think we will ever use the cooker that much I prefer the sink not to splash on our bed :)
I assume they could not put stove there as window was there (curtains/blinds) and once it went they swapped it
Although I agree not the best place for the cooktop.. Jimmy how do you find getting into the microwave from the dinette side?
I thought it be a little squishy.

Hi @davemc, that's my concern also squishy getting things out of the microwave, not that you spend a lot of time putting things in and out of the microwave on holidays, for sure my 9yr old will splash water on the bed when its his turn to wash up.

Why don't you see if you can order it with layout you want? If you read the gas regs you can see why the window went. No such reason for the sink swap.

Plenty of room for the microwave, not that we use it heaps. You would be going some to splash water on the bed IMO the sink is still a good 3-400mm away from the edge it's a very deep bowl as well. Plus your water pressure is not excessive.

I guess there is no harm in asking, if it was possible I would like the fridge moved next to the bed then the stove followed by the sink, they would have to put a wall between the bunks and the sink it may be possible to do.

I still like how the plans on the website and pics are now very old and out of date.

If I could design from scratch.. I would of been a full van and triple bunks and I would of got the -3.
I asked could I put 4 bunks in -1 instead of cupboard and said no.
Would of loved the bunk to be cafe style like Expanda's although no.
Would of loved the microwave to be up higher like the Avan Lily same plan.. No.. I gather it was because the pop top is lower in the Starcraft.
Actually I like this in a triple as more leg room in bunks. Or cupboard at the end of each bunk for the clothes

Don't you just love how they still let you look at what you cannot have.

They will keep the fridge over the wheels for weight distribution, which may have been there reasoning on moving the stove too?

Good point Jim, the 164 L fridge stocked with food would be a little heavy to throw that far forward, Jayco unlike some other van manufacturers are always conscious of weight distribution.

Yep it's amazing to see how far they are going to shed weight. The bench tops and table tops on our 17:58 are all composite sandwich laminate over foam and weight heaps less than the traditional tables and Benches in our previous two expandas.

The cupboard doors are not that heavy as well and made out of the stuff I think Ikea use now. I type this on a old Ikea Jerker desk which is heavy as and pretty solid. We have a newer Ikea in the same room made of whatever the thing is that looks like wood although I feel its more plastic.
