Well its a Jayco tradition to make getting your new van almost impossible. Checked out the 16.51-3 the day after we got home from the corner trip. While i got prices Pauline kept looking to make sure it's what we wanted. 20min later when she returned i was holding a pen and a hat. when asked how i went with a price i told her that i had spent heaps on a pen and hat and i mean lots. I got the "we where only looking" comment. I replied with i looked, i liked so i bought.
We pretty much chose our colours there and then and where told it would be off the line around the 20th Feb 2015.
The week before Christmas we got a call to say come on in and finalise the van.
Problem 1. Original sales man had left so now dealing with new person.
Problem 2. Now that your van is a 2015 model all colours of interior have changed, pick new ones.
Problem 3. No you cannot have 16in tyre upgrade.
problem 4. Can only have jockey wheel to centre of a frame if you get extended draw bar at $300 extra.

The options we have chosen are:
1. Larger fridge which we don't have to pay extra for as 2015 models now come with 174lt fridge
2. 2x 150w solar panels
3. Picnic Table.
4. Bike Rack on rear
5. Drifter Control Panel (thrown in free)
6. Jockey wheel to inside of A frame

So the wait begins and the excitement builds, cannot wait for the first trip.

Congratulations on getting your new caravan.
One question are you getting the Outback or tourer version?

Hello @Dove
We also really like the layout of the 16.51-3 and a seriously looking at the Outback version.

Would it be possible for you to post from your trailer compliance plate the following;
Tare (if shown)
GVM
ATM
Empty Ball Mass
Maximum Ball Loading

Rim size/profile
Tyre size

We are considering buying a 16.51-3, but after our difficulty with trying to buy a 18.55-3 (which had a very high empty ball mass) I am very concerned with weight of any new van I am considering buying.

Thanks in advance
Terry

Thanks for the great response.
Note the brochure has tare 1920Kg and Ball 187Kg with allowable load is 375Kg for single axel.
Next time you get a chance have a look at the load rating of the tyres on the Outback, I think the load rating on the standard 15" tyres may be a bit marginal. A load rating of 110 is 1060Kg which is typical for 15" (.better would be 111=1090Kg, best would be 120=1400Kg) per tyre, I would hope it is a bit higher than 110 to give a better safety margin.
2209-187=2022 then divide by 2 =1011 Kg static load per tyre when hooked up to tow.

Hot off the compliance plate: Outback model.
Empty Ball Mass 185 kg, Max Ball 222 kg, Tare 1829 kg, GTM 2019, ATM 2204 kg, Rim size/profile 6jj x 15.
If ordering one of these vans I would go for the Outback version. Being a July 13 build ours has the old suspension of heavy duty beam axle, leaf springs and shockers. The newer Outbacks come with Jayco's independent suspension. I am happy with the way our van tows and manoeuvres so would not consider changing over for this feature.

To all those with the Outback version and a outside fold down table. I thought of adding it to our van but didn't as I thought it would sit to high to be readily usable. I.E. the Outback is a few inches higher than the tourer model. The table on an Outback looked too high. It this the case or do you get good use out of your outside table.?

We have two on our outback and they are awesome. Too high to sit and eat off but so handy in every other way.

Yep @Dove its not a sit down table you still need one of those. It's like a bar , you put all your salt , pepper , tomato sauce , drinks etc up there. Too high for the little kids to grab stuff off & can't be knocked over so that's where I put my beer when not sitting down..

Great info thanks a lot. Nice to know they tow well.
Wonder what the JTEC suspension does to Caravan weight and tow ball weight?
