Well. The box was drawn up and yesterday we went and checked out a place around the corner for a price. Didn't stay long after we say the welding on the boxes. Terrible is too nice a word. So have emailed a few other places.
Before going further a check of the tow ball weight was required, so off to supercheap to get some scales. Today I moved the van onto the flattest bit of road I could find and weighed it. Bugger me, it was 170kg!!!! (Plate says empty is 238kg.) sure the van isn't empty, but the stuff I have in there doesn't weight that much (ok my baccarat pots n pans aren't exactly light), but OMG and I'm sure my spare wasn't solely to blame. I even have the front boot area chockers with chairs, chicks, mats, side walls, etc.

No, just the sleeping bags, fold up silicon bucket and a little fan heater. The stuff is all up the front or over the axels at the moment. Both tanks are empty too. Wondering if that was why it felt like the van was in control of the car sometimes, as well as rear tank being a third empty.

Once you add a nice 20-30kg toolbox and fit the slide with the fridge and other stuff you can get the ball weight back up to 238kg ;)
Weighed it all yesterday on scales. We can have the box (incl 2 slides) engel, genny and BBQ in there, plus Matts and still have room to move with the weight. (Max ball weight that is though)

Send the drawing and details to Tian Cheng at Chengy Fabrication (chengyfabrication at iprimus.com.au) and tell him David from J&C Industrial sent you. He will either give you a good deal or charge double ;)

We use him for ali work and he does some great work.

That sounds about right.

Ours is 190kg and we still have the spare on the draw bar

Well, our design for the box went out the window. Was going to take too long to make, so picked up one that will do the job. Unfortunately the engel won't fit, but the rest will.
Decided not to put holes in the drawbar so bought some u bolts. Just putting the regulator on now and it's good to go. Didn't need any extra pipe for the gas as we had heaps. (Luckily FIL is an ex plumber/gas man / lecturer who up until recently use to set the state plumbing/gas fitting exam)

That box looks familiar ;)
And good move not drilling the drawbar!!!!! Don't want to weaken it!
It does doesn't it. Got the biggest they had (1750 mm) . Which size did you get??
Was hoping for a rectangular one, but they only had this one . Good thing is, I can sit on it while strapping the table up.
