Our plastic box has done over 20,000 kms so far and the only attrition, so far, is the straps I used to make sure the lid didn't come off. The straps have disintegrated and will be replaced.

The good thing is that the box itself weighs 4kgs with some stuff in it...not the weber, just incidental bits...which is a hell of a lot lighter than a big metal toolbox.

Just not as sturdy or as secure....but a 10 year old weber doesn't need that.

You are certainly making progress with all the mods.....good on you.

Want to do an Anderson for me? My auto leckie is flat strap and can't do it for another week.
My lecky fit me in in short notice, give them a call (Jenkins autospark in myaree).

Our placky box won't be as robust as yours. I'll just grab one of the ones I keep the kids toys in for this trip and see how it goes.

Our draw bar is the extended one. And with the spare now on the bumper.....it looks HUGE!!!!
We are getting a place down the road to custom make one for us. It will have slide outs both sides (either engel/engel, or engel/bbq or engel/generator combos depending on where we go) and a hatch in the centre for other crap that we take. Have a 12V outlet in the front boot to run the engel while on the move. F.I.L sets (or use to set) the licensing exam for plumbing (and was a plumber), so he will make sure we move the gas bottles correctly. will put mesh across where spare sat and that can be for hoses...the run off can dribble all it likes onto the road then.
Am getting there. Not waiting for input from other half, just going to do it and get it done. (5 months and 10 days and counting. )

I saw that in your thread, and was very impressed with it. Can't remember if I asked, but the slide you've got your BBQ on, is it a fridge slide or did you get it specially? We bought a waeco slide for our engel, but are concerned that it won't extend out enough to open the fridge. Hubby keeps changing his mind as to what will go in the box. I reckon just make it universal and put what's needed (looking to have a slide out each end).

No, it's not a fridge slide, both the generator and the bbq sliders are off the shelf runners from a body shop, however the one for bbq needs to be a double slide as a normal slide won't come out far enough to let you use the bbq. They are very expensive though, it was about $300 just for the runners, and then you have to make a tray to go in it for the bbq to sit on. The generator one at the other end is not a double slide out as the generator won't run in there, the slider is just to make it easier to get the generator out

all double slides. Fridge comes all of the way out. I also use the fridge slide to move the 3rd battery in and out from behind the fridge. Not heavy loads in the narrow draws but that's intentional. Recovery straps, shackles, stove and gas in the bottom.

Thanks for the info @Red1 . Thought as much with the runners. Didn't know they were called doubles though. Will need to take the fridge slide out and see how far it comes out, we could be lucky. Otherwise, the generator or bbq will sit on it on the other side.
Will also look on ebay as @peterg said to see whats around. Its a pity its not done in time for coral bay, maybe I can get it done in time for our trip.

With all the stuff you guys have in tool boxes geni, fridge, bbq etc etc plus the box how do have weight left to put in chairs outside table food clothes etc without going over gvm?
I carry all that stuff in the van as it is (it's a biggee) and we've had the spare moved to the back, so it's just a case of moving it round really. Need to weigh the front down anyway, as it seemed too light when I hooked it up and took it to the sparkies to get the Anderson installed on both car and van.

@Dobbie you don't know how much I agree with you there! I finished work for the term at 10.45 this morning. However inconsiderate family members are holding me up. Eldest is on a river cruise with school, hubby has to work tomorrow until 3.45 as he has a late class and son #2 may possibly have a broken knuckle and I now have to take him to the docs at 9am.
I mean.......REALLY?????
