We got the 2T as they where $1.50 more then the 1T and I thought seeing I am getting new ones get the biggest that fitted.
They had the same non rated ones as Jayco gave us for $1.30 under the price of the 1T rated.
We not talking mega $'s although agree I was one of those confused about what I needed.

Not saying that is a bad thing @PhilD The point I was trying to make is why have shackles rated more that the chain.
I guess my answer was more of a philosophy that technical which you are probably after. Only one I can think of is that regularly you have to do up or undo the shackle. Some where though between the Weight Load Limit and the Breaking Load Limit there must exist a Distortion Load Limit. Can be a bugger of a job undoing a shackle when the thing is so distorted that you need a hacksaw or bolt cutters. A pin that isn't straight any more kind of jams itself.

Will keep my 1T rated shackles as spares, adequate for my Panda 14.44-5 OB fully loaded.
Bought two 1.5T rated shackles, fit tow bar slots beautifully.
Pic shows diff between 1T and 1.5T
