Im organising a GVM rebadge, who did yours. There is differing views as to whether they apply outside the state they are provided

Crusty if your state will allow the GVM to be changed by an engineer after first registration it is valid in its state of registration and any other state the certificate is accepted. But should you sell the vehicle interstate the upgraded GVM is NOT accepted savy? So if you can get it done do it!

in Tassie you get on the state gov web site and download appropriate forms, fill them out and send em off. If approved you contact a engineer(list supplied by transport), he pretty much checks paper work to whats on vehicle(heights, springs, shock etc), takes a heap of pics then does up a report to send of for mod plate. Then if approved, you pay your fee's and he'll come fit plate. Im getting seating capacity changed(due to draws) and long range fuel tank approved while there at it.
According to engineer, it is Australia wide approved once done.

Jayco wiegh each van and provide a weighbridge certificate to the dealer for Rego . I belive it is factual. I emptied ours and weighed it after a few mods and were within 80-100kg and their is a 20kg -/+ on weigh bridges anyway. What Jayco don't always plate is the Tare. So unless you find your weighbridge cert you don't know what payload the knobs have given you! (I asked for it) So in our case we didn't get 475 but about 350 because all we had was an ATM/GVM I have no idea why they do this on the dual axle vans but I can understand the 16:49-3 because she is borderline axle/wheels/tyres and they are trying to cover their arse. So I went back to Jayco and asked for my 475kg but in a polite way reminding them of my axle set Being 2660kg (so heaps of headway ) and asked for more and they gave us a 600kg payload! What's more I gave them a new ball weight and they opened that window up between 130 and 200 or something so I was happy as . So I have checked my weight on the car and van and am either just under or just over depending on my diet. I am pretty happy with that and certainly shouldnt get stuck with more than having to drop a few litres at worse.

The Cruza I spent a fortune on and got it replated before first Rego so she got an extra 500kgs payload and its a federal compliance plate so not only the GVM got increased but being plated "re manufactured" vehicle by Lovells she's fully legal with a 3" lift!!?

I have gone to extraordinary legths over time to keep weight down. I have weighed all the contents of our first van and published a list here somewhere years ago (perhaps a better searcher than me can find it?) I even factory ordered it with two batteries and two spare wheels so I could lose one of each and gain 30 kgs with battery and 25kg with the spare in the drawbar!

I belive it's very hard to get your payload down to much under 5-600kg when resonably packed for an outback trip and that's with few toys. I certainly re thought long range tanks, Kaymar bars and bike racks . i wanna be able to carry more water.

As above Moto mech accepted Australia wide whilst registered in the state of approval so you have no worries whilst travelling around. But it's not federally complied that can only be done pre Rego

What sort of cost is attached to that process, the engineers report not the mods themselves

I recently read a story about people being forced to leave their vans at the weigh point after being found overloaded, I wasn't too concerned personally until I hit that weigh bridge ... then to add to the anxiety a colleague went to the Sandown caravan show and heard a dude at a seminar relaying a similar story about overloaded van combos being put off the road. Now I know, Ill couldn't live with the domestic fallout if I now got done for overloading

But I have still found it hard to actually find somebody who has been stopped at a roadside weighbridge? Not a friend of a friend or mothers first sons illegimate ape grandchild! But a first person.

where do I start ,,,,,,,,,, when I first got the van a week later fitting the new hitch at Reese in Werribee I will weigh your ball for you to see what it is , van empty just full water tanks 265 on the ball ,,,,,,, that carnt be right I say he says I get my scales checked all the time its my lively hood to be right I stand by my scales they where like kitchen scales but very industrial digital ones ,,,,,, so thats when I started freaking out already 15kg over nothing in van rang jayco spoke to bloke at HQ seemed concerned then sent him weigh bridge dockets but could never reach 265 on the weigh bridge not as accoutre I think 250 was most I could get same weight nothing in van he said at jayco they would take van back and repay my cash , speak to the wife I said , from that moment on never heard from them again after many emails gave up so I now have a cruiser 100 series not 50 but not far off it it has cost me dearly to keep my van which we love some say ive over reacted but I know my weight dose not match my plate ,, there brochures state evan less I know things you can add ,,,, add weight but that's a guide for people 220 max ball weight my plate says ,, no its 220 no water nothing in the van empty !! so heres where it get interesting ive put spare wheel on back bar and taken off one gas bottle which when full weigh more than 9 kg took it to my local weigh bridge it has 6 or 8 different decks on the one weigh bridge for different wheels and over all weight I put back wheels of van on 1 deck in middle and jockey wheel in middle of next deck ,,,, drive car off did this sunday ,,,,,, 252 tonne over all just water in it 220 on the ball dumped the water now 240 tonne still 220 on the ball go figure ,,,, I have played with tanks before just dumping front tank made no real difference im buggered if I know but I know when all our stuff is in its heavy but prado towed it easily 11 to 14 per 100 never had water in it but was it legal I think not hence the cruiser now I know heaps of stuff plus annex I have plenty at 350 on the ball and 3500 towing now I can have water if we go free camping

at Cobram I saw a huge crusader towed by a very small VW new one he said its 3.5 towing but it looked like it was towed by a mini just didn't look right smaller than prado ???????? I don't care what it tows its just not right 3 tonne van !!!!! isn't the tow car sposed to weigh more than what its towing ????????? for now cruiser is going well happy with 14 per 100 towing heaps of torque for towing powers up hills easily and we can get a bigger van if we want

I think these days many people are towing big vans with small cars I don't understand < im not knocking anyone > I just don't understand

truck driver at work got loaded 3 tonne over that's one bucket for us had accident in city lady on a bike lost her arm the fines for the driver ,, operator ,,, Forman,,,, company ,,, truck owner,, went on and on hundreads of thousands of dollars I know its different but would hate to be over weight and have something happen I would loose everything even the house if it was bad enough so the cruiser is my insurance against all the D/Hs on our roads rant over sorry its long @Crusty181 started it

Yeah i hear you, but i suppose theres still the underlying personal position that im concerned enough to do it the right way. Its not a massive cost issue for that piece of mind. I havent heard any 1st hand stories either but a mates wife is in charge of a Highway Patrol unit, and shes pretty convincing that it happens.

Your on the money @Bluey, i dont think it helps with car and van salesman selling anything to anyone, the lack of informed knowledge combine with the average Joe having no clue what a weigh bridge even is.

I also think theres a little too much willfull blindness on behalf of vanners. If they dont look, they dont know so therefor the problem isnt there

@Crusty181 if you up grade your car dose this mean more ball weight you can have or just carry in your car ,,,,,,, I need to increase my payload in the van get plate changed jayco don't do that do they have to go an engineer ????????
