Welcome back Moto. Look forward to your report and some pix. Maybe we passed each other in Cowra. We stayed there on the 20th November. Interesting town. :whip:

Yes i am a slack ass! I promised photos and delivered nothing.

Here is a few starters

1st Camp at Burringjuck Waters (near Yass)
Camp1.JPG

Then we stumbled onto a gem of a spot at Hume Weir. We fell in love with Albury while staying here. Also a shot from the Wonga wetlands, a beautiful spot on the outskirts.
Camp2.jpgCamp2 2.JPG

Yummy drinks, sauces and jams at the Big Strawberry (thanks for the tip off Bushman!)

The token paddle steamer ride at Echuca, the kids loved it, especially our 2 yr old!
Camp4.JPG

And sleeping wombats at the Fauna Park about 30 min from Echuca. Easily on of the best zoo's we have ever been to!
Camp4 2.JPG

Fun tram ride around Bendigo, a beauitful town.
Camp5.JPG

Then we were onto another gem of a town, Maryborough. Great little simple caravan park on the mini lake with a great bike track around it. Also had an amazingly huge station for its remote location.

Next we headed to the Grampians. What a top spot!

The devastation from the floods was every where with road closures and land slides scaring the landscape. We stayed at Lake Fyans. The zoo here was also great, really able to get up close and personal with the animals.

After the Grampians most people go straight to Warnambool, but we decided to go to Portland and thank god we did. I feel in love with Portland, but i think thats because it reminded me of home, very much like Wollongong Harbour.

Within 20min of arriving we had our first of many close encounters with Koalas. A real novelty for us. This guy walked right past the door of our van and climbed the tree next to us.
Portland 2.jpg

Then we did a few touristy things like the Cable Tram tour (stopped right out the front of our caravan park!), climbing the old water tower (now a WW2 memorial and lookout), and a coffee at the old light house.

We had pretty crap weather while at Portland, but loved our stay there.

Great report Moto, there is some places I'll have to put on our must see list.
Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences it sounds like you had a great time :thumb:

Maybe next time we can catch unfortunatly this time it wasn't possible.

Did you use the end canvas privacy screens you had made up?

OK so going to try and finish my poor attempt at our trip report.

After Portland we spent the day exploring Port Fairy before heading to Warnambool for the night. We really enjoyed both towns and would have loved to have spent a few days at both but our kids were sick early in the trip and we lost a fair bit of time early.

We loved riding around Warnambool (so glad we opted for the bike rack on the van)

No we were starting the Great ocean road proper!

We checked out all the great look outs along the way as we headed towards Port Campbell, heading east.
GOR 1.JPGGOR2.JPG

But the kids soon got sick of getting in and out of the car, so we set up camp at the beautiful Port Campbell.

Once we setup camp we headed to the 12 apostles, but got sidetracked by a bright red helicpoter on the side of the road. I pulled over the make an enquiry and 10min later we were in the air taking in all the GOR has to offer, but from a different angle:biggrin1:

GOR3.JPGGOR4.JPGGOR5.JPG

No complaints from the kids now!

What a huge buzz!

That afternoon and the next day we took in a few more sites but none really compared to the helicopter flight. It was very expensive but worth every dollar as well!

GOR6.JPG

And for anyone going to the 12 apostles for the first time forget the afternoon, it was wallyworld (crowded) and the lighting isn't very good for photos. Early the next morning i had the whole place to myself and got some great photos:whoo:

Next we headed for Cape Otway. We had heard people saying you had to pay heaps of money and it wasn't worth it. What a load of crap. It was one of the most beautiful places i have ever been.

We stayed at a nice private park called Bimbi which had some great bush style camps at the back. There was also powered sites but the backpackers in hire vans were ruining the vibe in that park of the park for me. Another option for small vans would be blanket bay bush camping.
Otway1.JPG

At one stage we had 8 Koalas in the trees immediatley around our van. We sat outside all night and watched and listened to them growl. The kids loved it, sure beats watching the idiot box!
Otway5.JPGOtway6.JPG

Then next day we visited the famous Cape Otway lighthouse, and though there was a charge i didn't think it was excessive, and was sure glad we didn't listen to the campers who told us to avoid Cape Otway. What a great tradgety it would have been if we missed this place!
Otway3.JPGOtway4.JPG

We capped of a great stay with a great sunset over the Cape!

We were fast running out of time, so chose to stay at Wye River (recommended from a fellow camper i met on day one of our trip) and used it as a base to explore the other famous towns along the GOR. All the towns were very nice but a bit touristy for us. Wye River was just perfect and quiet (we stayed mid week).

We stayed at the Big4 which had a cafe outside (that made the best coffee!) and a pub next door (that had the best views!).

Wye1.JPGWye2.JPG
Wye3.JPGWye4.jpg

It was time to head home after 2 nights at Wye River, we stayed at Hume Weir again where i witnessed a mini tornado rip through Bellbridge on the other side of the lake and we camped in the biggest storm i have ever been in.

We then stayed a Euroa, which was a nice town.

Then the Toy Story Triology later we were home in Wollongong. The Big Merino at Goulburn always lets us know we are nearly home on the highway.
Day 27 -Goulburn.JPG

27 days on the road, about 2500km, two country medical centre visits, thousands of toddler tandrums (lost count day one!) and many more great memories!
There is so much more of Victoria to explore, we can't wait to get back down there.

Great stuff Moto. Sure looked like you enjoyed yourself (temper tantrums excepted). That trip is on my bucket list. Still waiting to get our van back. :whip:
