Carpet definitely. Search out thread "What do you put on the floor" (My approach at post #41) On my third Jayco with light coloured carpet. It's always my first mod. Absolutely no regrets. Great heat insulation (summer & winter), sound insulation, and underfoot comfort. A search for "bunk curtains" will also give you so great ideas.

It was your thread that made me suggest it to my husband originally! I don't know if he liked the idea at first but after the freezing feet last night I'm pretty sure he is sold now.
Will definitely be pinching some ideas from here for the curtains, saw a couple of easy looking ideas not long ago.

I know it all sounds a bit counter-intuitive but persist. Got our last lot of carpet at Western Distributors in Sunshine. (from their oddments pile $80 with enough for 2 mats, etc.) Light colour doesn't show dirt as much. Also keeps the interior looking light/bright and spacious.

The new carpet is a huge success. It felt so much warmer in the van last night. I also discovered that we had an old double bed electric blanket in the cupboard at home so we put that on the front end bed, it was great!!

Electric blanket? Carpet? what are these strange things you southerners speak of
S'pose you Northerners haven't heard of wooly socks, gloves, scarves, thermals or Vitamin D deficiency, either?
A clear indictment of the Qld education system. :dejection:

Good try Xpandafan, born in VIC, educated (well sort of) in NSW, one day I woke up and moved to QLD 8-)
I must say VIC and NSW look great in the rear vision mirror
:becky: Pretty sharp comeback for a new member there DRW, you'll certainly fit in well on this forum.

DRW There is even more strange talk a few post's back about Heaters, This is something I will have to Google.
We have discovered that the rooftop heater is not effective below 7 degrees and doesn't work below 4 degrees!

I never imagined wanting an electric blanket in a caravan but I am officially in love with the concept now. I was nice and warm all night while the poor people at the other end of the van were close to freezing :p

Below 7 degrees!! what country are you in???

I have actually used the AC in heat mode, it got down to 16 degrees here once and I near froze. I was at bullock flats some years ago when they recorded the lowest temperature in Australia, can't remember what it was but when you're prepared its not too bad. As long as you can get away and enjoy yourself life's pretty good.

Lol, we have just gone down to Anglesea for a few days away. We couldn't go too far from Melbourne as I had to go into the city for work today. We don't mind the cold so much as it is easy with the heating etc. and the kids have warm sleeping bags so they are fine. It might be a different story if it was raining though...

Another addition we have added to the van is a pair of rain coats that pack up nicely. Surely this is an addition also that you would find only in our Victorian vans.

I have put raincoats in the funny awkward cupboard above our fridge but we were very lucky, it just started raining as we were driving off today so we didn't need them this time8-)

Got a small supply of those semi-disposable ponchos as well as rain-suits which can come in handy for all sorts of odd jobs (plus small box of disposable gloves).
