Ok I can't commit at this stage (until it gets closer) but just throwing this out there as maybe another suggestion.

What about Colac Colac Caravan Park it is located 5 minutes from Corryong. There is plenty to do and see in the area from a tour at the Snowy Hydro scheme at Khancobin to waterfalls or a visit to Geehi Hut.

The park is also pet friendly (but maybe confirm 1st) and has a communal fire pit.

From the website

We are on fifteen acres with four hundred-plus trees, shade, peace and tranquility, on the banks of Nariel Creek. Enjoy fishing, swimming, bike riding, bushwalking and the magnificent mountain views and waterfalls, or simply enjoy relaxing by the stream. The kids will love it - and you'll have the time of your life. The cranky-old local publican will even pick you up and shuttle you to his pub, feed you well, fill ya full of grog and drop you back home at our park.

Sorry if I have stepped on anyones toes...

Following this thread with interest. Flinders would be our preference and July holidays would suit us. Is the weather good then?
after saying that, it is a long way off for us to promise anything. ..
The weather in June/July/August is the absolute best. It can always be a bit of hit and miss but most times when we have stayed there we experienced stunning cool, clear, sunny days. The nights are generally FREEZING :smow: but that's part of the experience :) and there is always the option to have a fire in the bbq/fire pits or spend some time in the camp kitchen where (hopefully still) have a combustion wood fire.

Flinders Ranges Weather Climate
South AustraliaThe Flinders RFlinders Ranges Weather Climate
South AustraliaThe Flinders Ranges present a wide variety of climatic regions. As the wide variety of the plains north of Crystal Brook, the climate is temperate, with an annual rainfall of around 650 mm. Further north, conditions become progressively more arid, with average annual rainfalls between 250 and 350 mm. High temperatures around the upper 30oC are experienced at the height of summer.

Autumn, winter and spring are by far the best seasons to visit, in winter, daytime temperatures are generally mild, but the nights can be very cold.

The climate of the Mid North is temperate. Temperatures vary with the topography - on the coast, the range tends to be higher than on the region's eastern boundaries which border plains country. Some districts, such as the Clare Valley, can experience cooler weather in winter. Annual rainfall varies between 350mm and 500mm, with falls of around 600mm in isolated cases.

I tend to agree @DRW with you on this due to a few reasons worth pointing out.
1. Those of us that don't own a outback model van will have an easier time getting there.
2. Over 50% of members who voted in the "where are you from poll" are from Vic/NSW/ACT and 75% including Qld which puts a Eastcoast destination as more admireable destination and more accessible (sorry to our WA members).
3. No dustproofing or rock protection required.
4. The last national meet was a outback destination.
5. More than likely a cheaper option for most.

Well that is my 2c worth and are more than happy to hear everyones thoughts and as @BUSH PALACE said we need to explore options.

Alice can be done all on the black top depending which way you go ...
Yep I know it's not too bad for me but for Sydney and Newcastle and Se Qld its a fair hike. Brisbane to Corryong is half the distance of going to the Alice.

Brisbane - Alice = 2900
Sydney - 2800
melb - 2300
Adelaide - 1550
Perth - 3500
or by dirt - 2500

Here's a completely out there idea, stick with me I may ramble;

Last years meet was organised by @BUSH PALACE from SA. Perhaps we need meets organised every 2 years, hence 2016. The next meet should be arranged by someone from a different state, the one after that from another state and so. Example only, one of the WA members could organise the 2016 meet. NSW in 2018 and so on. If we continued this, eventually we all have the opportunity to travel or stay close and over a number of years complete a full lap of the big island (albeit on seperate trips).
