Another CIL policy bit the dust today, we've changed to AAMI. They assure me that any forcible entry is covered be it through the canvas or any other way. CIL don't seem to want to budge on their policy, they tried to convince me that they were caravan specialists however I found that AAMI covers more than them including flood damage.

CIL have lost us as well ... going to AAMI who assure me that we are covered if forcible entry through the canvas bed end. They are also $65 cheaper a year (we do have all our other insurances with them as well). Love the info gained from this site - thanks everyone

I realise the contents isn't covered, but if some one decides to come in and for no apparent reason want to trash everything and not actually steel anything, are you covered for the repairs to cupboards ect? Are your cupboards classed as contents. Most of the stuff I have in the van, like IPAD macbook, Iphone are covered under my house hold contents away from home.

Good question.

We leave very few valuables in the van and don't have TV etc. Would CIL cover the cost of damage to canvass etc?

Without reading the fine print, I would assume whatever you can't take out of the van is part of it so would be covered by the policy, just like your house so this would include cupboards.

Cheers.

BOD - that's my question too... or alternatively, does anyone know what it would cost to replace the canvas on the bed end.....

I was thinking the same thing this morning, when chasing RACV for written confirmation.
If slashing the canvas isn't 'forced' entry, CIL can't possibly cover it as 'damage' either can they????

The torn canvas would probably be covered as malicious damage (AAMI do) but the contents not covered as they stated. Be good to to confirm this though for those staying with CIL.

GOOD NEWS ALL!

I thought just before deciding to take up a policy with RACV I would give CIL a call and get to the bottom of what is going on. We went through the usual jargon and got a quote at a good price so was happy. I then mentioned about the expandas having the canvas ends and that theft cover would not include these beds ends. The girl then checked with the management team and BECAUSE OF THIS FORUM the management team have decided to include Jayco Expanda vans in the theft cover as they are predominately hard walls and due to the low number of claims for this form of theft they are happy to cover the expandas. The management team are going to contact the administrators of this forum and request to put a statement on detailing this change. All this is great news, but I for one won't be signing anything until I see something in writing ie. PDS confirming the change. So well done all, it just shows strength in numbers and hopefully logic will prevail.

One a separate coverage note, if you read the PDS it also states that your caravan will not be covered for Liability insurance in the event that the caravan becomes detached from the car. The exact wording on the policy is, on page 51 "if at the time of the accident, or immediately before the accident, your caravan was attached to a registered motor vehicle". In other words if you are driving and the van comes off and rolls through the Eiffel Tower, you will have to pay to rebuild it.

the likelihood of this occuring I assume would be slim providing you use your safety gear and ensure your safety chains are on. Just some food for thought.
