Grrr need to vent!

My wife's cousin is over from the UK and staying in our pride n joy. Its pretty bloody cold here of a morning too (for a bit of context).

Anyway, as we are living at my in laws at the moment while we build, we have it plugged in to 240v at their place. Well! The truma rev. Cycle has stopped heating, so no problem, in goes a medium sized electric heater.

Now not for love nor money can we plug the van in without blowing a circuit breaker on their power box!

This is driving me mental. I've been working for the last week so there's not much I could do.. but now I'm off I don't know what to do.

Maybe... maybe I'll take it around to my parents place once the cousin is out.. see if it trips their breakers. (The van hasn't tripped out at all!) And if it does it can go straight to Dubbo back to the dealer. Still have to fix the bloody truma anyway :(

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Can you unplug the Aircon? if there is a prob with that maybe thats whats causing it to trip
or try unplugging everything then adding one at a time see what makes it trip

Good thinking captain. Do you know where it sources power from? I'm guessing either behind the fridge or where the hot water plugs in...

Not sure on yours but my 16 plugs in under the rear bed if its tripping in the house and not the van then it may be a problem with your lead dunno only guessing, If yours is a roof top one it may be hard wired in which case it would think it would have its own circuit breaker

If it's tripping the house then it's not the van as it would trip, happened at my sons place in Canberra recently, would trip their shed breaker, put the heater down a couple of notches and all was good. We use a ceramic heater as the A/C runs nice an warm then goes cold for awhile until it gets the temp right, so bought a cheapy ceramic heater ($30) works great, warm all the bloody time but if plugged into 10 amp don't run at high and don't plug the kettle in or use the how water, turn heater down a bit.

PS: I've tagged my 240V plugs so I know which one's which.

  • Good idea there drover! Well we have it sorted now.. it was definitely the heater tripping the van. Now I just need to get the trauma working again..

Devastated!

Well, that might be an over-reaction, but gutted none the less...

I have been keeping a caravan diary, on the notes app on Lauras Ipad2. It was pretty detailed, had all the usual details and stories of our holidays.. well, i somehow deleted it accidentally with stubborn fingers!

I didn't realise before this, that i could email my notes which would obviously then act as a back up copy..

Bugger! :(

Hi @blacky
I finally found a simple solution that worked when this happened to me (none of the others did).
The lost Note was in my gmail account (the one used to set up my IOS devices) in "All Mail" (not trash, or elsewhere).
All Mail in my OS X mailbox (includes all my mail accounts) didn't work - what did was going directly into gmail via my Safari browser.
I'm not sure why this is the case, but am grateful that it worked

Fingers crossed this works for you mate

@blacky If she has not backed up the ipad since last backup you can restore back to the point before if your lucky.
or synced to other devices if icloud turned on
Do you backup to computer or cloud? If computer then there is some apps around that should do this
I have previously just looked at files in the directories and randomly opened files with dates around when I want.'
Best bet for anything computer wise apart from turning it off and on. :)
Type the most information you can in google and look for what is helpful.

Thanks for the feedback folks, I'm yet to try, too much going on at the moment, but I will have a crack at your suggestions!

Currently looking at moving into the van as our home while our house is being built.... drama drama! But we may not be able to buy a full annexe at the moment, it seems, due to a legislation change regarding fridge ventilation :/

Will ring my dealer tomorrow and see what the story is.

Hi blacky
Jayco won't sell the annex to you but you can easily source one yourself. I. Ordered one with my mine back in June but got told later by my dealer that jayco can no longer sell them but I can buy it privately through their dealer. I have done this and thier dealer will pick up my van and fit it before pickup. I have to pay the annex people privately and a warning sign is on the annex saying to have ends open when running fridge on gas. There dealer was adelaide annex.

Thanks @Petecaz you're spot on mate. I rang Ryans and they're going to measure/order/fit for me. Also fitting jayco bed ends too... (may just go with the annex brand for ends, depending on the $$$)

Anyway, spending our first days at the block ATM :D

Set up a 1000l water pod today on my big steel work bench, to gravity feed into the caravan tanks. The joys of no water/power.. It is pretty awesome but!

Sounds like a great adventure. I kicked up a fuss when jayco advertised the end covers back in July and I hadn't picked up my van yet. They were kind enough to throw the new end covers in.

Looking forward to having our warranty issues fixed up though, sweeeeeet :)
