So who is footing the bill for the repair?
Only one person for it... Me :(

SWMBO was going shopping for my pressie tomorrow coz apparently I am hard to buy for... Told her don't worry.... Gotta love cars. Good when they work but when they don't they cost am arm and a leg. Looks like new car shopping in the new year.

Thanks for the offer mate :)!

Some good news, got the car back today and it would seem the gremlin has been found and removed YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Still not 100% sure on the cause but my wallet is a little lighter tonight :(!

Mechanic, replaced a few sensors, gave it a carbon clean, new fuel filter, reflashed ecu, checked all earths, relays etc etc and it has been resolved....

Holidays here we come :)!
Glad your issue has been sorted @expanda enjoy your holidays. The weather has been great up here!

Yeah I got a 10 yr drivetrain warranty on mine, they have reduced it to 5 yrs this year. Good peace of mind I think.

Nooooo. Don't do it, still got one of my Tritons waiting on parts and out of action, fifth time in 12 months we have had it in for a blown inlet manifold gasket!

I here of some of the woes :)!

But honestly the woes don't seem to be on every one of them.

All models seem to have there issues, I won't go into particulars but at the price the tritons currently are being sold for due to the change in model next year its hard to justify the additional cost of other models.

I am not talking a meager 5k here in difference between say a Triton and a BT50 but I am talking in the vicinity of 20k difference.

I just got a quote for a Triton, drive away for 31k with the bits I need and the BT50 was close to 52k.

Sure some of them have issues but so do the others and so do the Navara's, Hilux, Cruisers etc ....

Understand you have not had the best experience but I just simply don't have 20k extra to justify a BT or similiar or I would snap one up.

I want to do a few things to the Pathfinder to make it more of a tourer so the question is do I sink that into this car or sink it into something brand new.

Honestly not decided as the Pathy is a beast but the things I want to do it (Long Ranger Fuel Tank, Draws etc) all add up and something I can do for a quarter of the cost in a Triton.

For instance to do a long range tank in the Pathfinder I need to relocate the spare tyre to the rear in order for the tank to fit. The cost for a rear wheel carrier fitted is between 2.5k and 3k. Then the tank is about 1500 as they don't make many of them so its a total of 4.5k for the pathfinder to get a long range tank in.

For the triton, its a straight 1000 installed and they are ready to go on the shelf no stuffing about.

One of the other main issues I am yet to solve and can not do in a Pathfinder is the boot size. We carry an outboard motor with us and in a Dual Cab ute we would have plenty of room to store it in the tray but in the pathfinder we have to loose one seat in order to get it to fit. I could solve the issue with a set of custom drawers but would cost in the vinicty of 2k.

Not decided either way as I love my Pathfinder but its really a question of where best to sink the had earned $$$$ and do I end up with something that has warranty at the end of it all especially after todays bill from troubleshooting the pathy.

Again I feel your personal pain for the issues you are personally experiencing and hope it gets better for you and your situation!

Umm, Mr Expanda, can you find out what the Gremlin was? Or they don't know coz the did so much? I am very curious to know. Young Reece was near on bald with mine coz he couldn't get it to do it at first. It wasn't until the last visit that he was able to see the thing in action. Even then it was another 6 hours before he located the problem.

Hey mate mechanic is not sure as you said he did to much.

Overall it was a combination of things that resolved it -

1) Needed an ECR (Spelling) clean (Carbon build up)
2) ECU Need re-flashing and remapping in combination with a replacement fuel filter (Yes fuel filters can cause this and is a wide spread issue)
3) Couple of sensors where replaced have the name on the receipt somewhere (nock sensor and something else I believe)
4) All relays where test, all earths where test and all voltages tested and reported as normal

Biggest problem is its not registering any error codes so its not a simple diagnosis.

They did get it on a proper scan system similiar to Nissans as well they had to get some one in to do this for them they did the reflashing and re tuning after the fuel filter replacement which was the final silver bullet today after they fiddled with it over the weekend.

You get what you pay for. If its too good to be true etc etc. Because the Triton is at the end of its life cycle resale may be ordinary. What about a new series 2 Colorado, with all the bad PR because everyone thinks Holden are leaving, I reckon those things could be good value, I think the series 2 Dmax is coming also.

Cheers for that!

Yep the DMAX and Colorado are good options and on my list.

If i went the Triton route I wouldn't being selling it for 10 years anyhow.

In terms of resale I have lost 50% on the pathfinder in two and a bit years anyhow so no biggy.

I don't think the tritons are to good to be true, they are built to a price point I accept that and I know they have dropped the price as the new model is coming in. That is the whole point, I really couldn't afford to buy a new car, heck its the reason I bought the pathfinder as at the time all the dual cab utes new where 45k but I could only afford something second hand so got myself a nice pathfinder for a fair bit less.

But I guess my point is I would rather buy something for say 30k and chuck 5 - 10k extras on it then buy something for 50k and then spend a further 5 - 10k as it really is just a pipe dream spending that much.

Again don't get me wrong not sold on a Triton just doing the sums tis all and at the moment they are good buying as it is the turn of the tide on the current model so if you can shop around this time then good deals can be made :)...

I really couldn't justify let alone afford getting into something new other than the price the tritons are currnetly going for.

But if I won the 70 million and had unlimited budget then it certainly wouldn't be my first pick.

Also the Pathy is perfectly capable and fine for the task at hand just want to make sure I invest my money in something long term not short term as its time to get the ball rolling in terms of mods.

Actually just had a look at the 2014 Dmax, looks pretty good with a 5yr/130k km warranty. Not sure on price but worth a look. What about the good old Mornington Peninsula for a trip. Surf, wineries, breweries etc. Easy for the non outback people too.

I'd sink the cash into the Pathy and keep it going for another 10 years, I think you will be disappointed with the ride and comfort of the tritons after having the Nissan.

Just my 2c worth. Of the 10 we have in the fleet, we have had major problems with all bar 1.

Cheers mate food for thought!

I know you said it before in the past.

But have they all had the same problem i.e manifold + injectors and what year series are they?
