A mate has a pathfinder with is what sounds like a simular problem, he has found the valve is not seating in one cylinder. Hope yours is not the not as it was $4000 to fix it.

@expanda have you had any work done to it lately? I read a story somewhere , where a guy had similar trouble which turned out that the long range tank which he had just had installed was squashing a fuel line and at idle was shaking it enough restrict the fuel flow .
Hope it all gets sorted nothing worse than getting all ready to go and being held up by something like that

I can't see a valve causing it to stall if it had a valve problem it would be idling rough all the time.

Ask your mechanic to clean the maf sensor as that won't necessarily cause a code problem

I am going to stick with my first suggestion. Like you, mine would run rough and then stall. We also thought it was a sensor. Did the whole sensor ECU error codes thingy. Got very frustrating. I had just had some work done on the vehicle which made it worse.
The previous week to all this starting I had looked at the air cleaner. In the process, I disturbed the air pipe going from the air cleaner to the engine. In the process I had cracked the pipe. This allowed air to leak into the pipe, bypassing some of the sensors. Those sensors caused the motor to stall. It started straight away each time and ran just fine. It only stalled at idle and even then not every time.
Look at those pipes and see if they are in good order. Also check the pipe clamps and see the pipes are sealing correctly.
Just to compound this even more, it took 6 hours to find the problem.
Have fun!

This was one of my thoughts....

Will not go into why but suffice to say I was very suspect on this area.

Dealer did a smoke test and pressure test and found no leaks :(!

Umm, fellow Toyota owners, please do not bag/brag. :) I have an 80 series Toyota. As previously posted, 3 trips back to the mechanic later. With the last effort being 6 hours solid work.

I have had to rebuild my old Nissan Patrol motor, and with all the work car issues I had to deal with, been burnt badly. Don't mean to poke fun, just felt weird being on the other side for once...

Must be the week for x-file pathfinder issues.
We took ours in for a service and was told we have an oil leak.
Except they can't find it.o_O
Mmmm...spilt some changing the filter I reckon, little channels direct mine right to the floor if I'm not careful.

Can feel your pain re car troubles.

Took my wife's Mazda 3 in for a service and asked them to do a radiator flush as it has been a while. Fluid level was okay in the tank bit colored but didn't take much notice.

Got a phone call this morning... Has anyone topped up with oil lately? Me... No why? Mechanic well it looks like someone has put oil straight into the radiator!
Me... Expletive after expletive.

No one has as my wife wouldn't even know what oil looks like and drove one of her first cars with the oil light coming on around corners but said hey it goes out! So it looks like a head gasket, cracked head or worst case a cracked block.

Merry flippin Christmas to us! :(

To top it off all of the engine rebuilders here in sunny Brisvegas are not back till 8th January at the earliest so no car for probably at least 3-4 weeks! Okay for this week as my parents are away so I can borrow their car but not sure after that. She is a nurse so need the two cars for her shift work. :(

There was absolutely no indication of any issue either. Has been running beautifully!

My whinge over. Back to troubleshooting for Expanda!

Hope everyone has a great Christmas though! :)

Geez that's no bloody good mate! Our Old XR6 falcon (not sure what model, but it was a 2004) dropped a welsh plug in the head which filled the block with coolant... then 6 months later something else let go and filled the radiator with oil! So I sold the bastard!

So who is footing the bill for the repair?

I can shout you that relay in my post if it fixes it!

Merry Christmas!!

Thanks for the offer mate :)!

Some good news, got the car back today and it would seem the gremlin has been found and removed YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Still not 100% sure on the cause but my wallet is a little lighter tonight :(!

Mechanic, replaced a few sensors, gave it a carbon clean, new fuel filter, reflashed ecu, checked all earths, relays etc etc and it has been resolved....

Holidays here we come :)!
