Thought some of you might like some pics of the new 17.56.1 OB demo that Page Bros have out the front now. The boys there tell me that the Melbourne Caravan and Camping Show was a huge success for Jayco, 356 new orders taken by the three dealers over the 4 days.

Looks nice inside. That first photo makes the caravan seem like it has come out of a Dr Seuss book.......curvey.

What's the story with the bottom cupboard door below the drawers - looks broken or poorly fitted? Also I see a return or the pre 2012 cabinet latches which I feel were a better idea than the later items. Found that at a single glance we could ensure all were shut and locked prior to hitting the road. With the latter the doors may be closed but not latched and you can't tell.

The beds have that certain glow about them from the inside 8-) when the suns out
Yep it will be nice and bright at 6:00 in the morning>:(. I know I cant believe how much light my 2012 bed ends let in compared to my old 2004 model, the canvas just gets thinner and thinner $$$$.

Looks like a poorly aligned drop down door as the wheel arch would be behind that one ruling another drawer out.

I wonder if they could do the canvas in normal colours. Interesting to see if they get some negative feedback like they did on some of the blue campers.

Yeah sorry @Smirke the first photo I took was with panorama setting because I would have ended up on the road to take the pic. I think this actual van is just a bolt together to show off the new model, it didn't have outside speakers and some other finishing off bits and pieces.
I don't mind the colors of the bed ends, its different from the boring old beige canvas of years gone by. Lets face it, most people go with privacy screens or now with the new bed ends to block out the light, you wont see it anyway.

I agree I don't mind the new colours and as for brightness in the beds in morning I will be putting on the privacy covers that come with the new van. Thanks for the photos AzHaych.

Had a look at the new range in Adelaide yesterday. Whilst I'm a fan of the new layouts (primarily to shift the fridge to the non annex side?) I was critical of the choice of cabinetry and the quality of fit. I think the new doors look a little cheap and nasty. I much prefer the door fronts used previously yet I welcome the return of the single push button latch. In the van I looked at with interest (16.49-3) all of the door gaps were all over the place and none of the drawers closed flush. When I made comment to the sales guy he remarked that these were all rushed through to make it to the show! That being true I think it's poor preparation to present a new product with no attention to detail. If you're going to make only 1 decent van it would want to be the one you're planning to display to your potential customers. I'm also not convinced of the new bed end lid latching mechanism (when shut) when compared to the current arrangement used since the HL was introduced. It appears to be quite flimsy and the body mounted brackets (to latch the lid shut) rubbed against the underside of the bed end base when it was open. I can't help think all this has been a massive cost cutting exercise with no thought given to quality and aesthetics. I so much wanted the new layout to solve all my problems with the current model but I've walked away totally disappointed and no longer interested.
When I looked at the options and inclusions for the price of the OB version (new Vtech suspension etc) I can see some improvements over previous models but it's unfortunate any gains have been negated by poor build choices IMHO.
2nd hand 18.57 still looking good ;)

I'm uncertain about the black piping / corning stuff on the outside. The plus is that it shouldn't fade to a yellowish/salmon colour like mine has started to.

Hi all.... Have been absent for a while - problems logging in but @expanda fixed that for me today!! Soooooo good to be back on the forum! Oh and changed jobs too.... So new email address didn't help matters! But all good now :)

Just checked with Caravanland today and our 2015 17-56.2OB is on track and coming off the production line March 19... Excitement is building (yes we are counting the days)! Have sold the Prado - very sad, great car - and the camper trailer (again very sad) in preparation....

Two disappointing things though. First one resources 3rd water tank. We wanted the extra capacity for free camping, and it was on our order, but we have since been advised they can't fit it now. Something about the spare tyre getting in the way which I don't believe but it is what it is. Second thing is the bed end covers. Obviously the 2015 model has a new bed end design, so the prior model covers won't fit. No outlook on when they will have ones suitable for the 2015 model yet either. Aside from that we are getting very very excited!!!

Just need to build up some holidays now so I can use it

Welcome back @MichaelB ... Can feel your excitement increasing and congrats on selling the Prado and Camper Trailer..... Sounds like everything is coming together for you.

Maybe you can sort out the water tank as an aftermarket addon (But unfortunately might affect your weight allowances?)

Guessing sleepless nights ahead ;)

Thanks @dagree and yes, excitement is building rapidly!!!

It has been a whirlwind time since Xmas actually. New job started it all, and it hasn't stopped since. Took a little while to sell the camper, but I was in no rush and it went last weekend. I never intended to sell the Prado, but I have to have a company car in my new role - no car allowance. So one of the, had to go, and the Ranger was bought to tow the Panda. So it had to be the Prado. Mind you, Juls is not overly excited about it being her everyday car at the minute..... Air con is the major gripe (and I must admit it is woeful compared to Toyota AC)

So with all that has been going on I haven't had much time to think about the expanda.... But I am now. And the kids are really looking forward to it.... Although they did shed a tear when the camper trailer went...

Btw.... First thing I looked at when I logged on was the WA meet page.....and I can't see any upcoming plans.... Are you getting slack Dave???? :behindsofa:

UMM... In one word YES but in my defence I kept running out of time >:(... Spending too much time away in the expanda ;)
@Capt. Gadget has the get together organised for a free camping long weekend in June (Good time to try out your new one).

We have a few things coming up over the next few weeks but would still like to organise something soon before the weather turns bad! Just have to pick a weekend when a few people are available.

Will work on putting out an expression of interest within the next week...... Have actually been waiting for others to organise. That way I can't get blamed for any storms that come through while away ;)
