G'day Moore family , and welcome to forum.
We also have the 20.63-1 outback and love it . We have the 2013 model with the older type suspension. I assume yours has the newer type ( Jayco J Tech ) with the independent coil suspension. How do you find it? I have a mate who has same model as yours and he is finding that he cannot tow above 90-100km/hr without it starting to sway. He previously had a 18 foot expanda without any problems and is a little dissapointed. He is an experienced driver and drives B double trucks for a living, so he knows what he is talking about. Not that you would want to tow at over 100km/hr (IMO) but it is nice to know that if needed ( for overtaking for example) that you could do so safely.

I would be interested in you thoughts , or anybody else .

Hi @Melon2155

Yep our 20.63-1 is the j-tech suspension. We have towed at well over 100km/hr and never experienced any sway. In fact like yours it always seems rock solid, you could almost forget it's there sometimes.
I understand your friend is experienced but it sounds like he either has over inflated tyres or not enough weight on the tow ball.
Perhaps he should take it back to jayco so they can check out the suspension for faults.
Hope this helps

If it helps my 20.63-1OB tows better than my 16 footer...one thing you should try if you haven't already done so is try running the tyres at the max PSI in accordance with the compliance plate. I have advise other members of this and after running the max PSI problem solved. Also get the bearing checked again by Jayco or a mechanic and double check the wheel nuts maybe too. You don't want to take the van back to Jayco for them to work out that it was something simple causing the van to sway...but then again they should have been checked at factory. I would try what I have suggested and go from there @Melon2155

Let us know how you get on too

Cheers Skip, Shall pass it on to Old Mate and see if the tyre pressure makes a difference. Otherwise , he was going to take it to Jayco for looking in to.
Quick question he did ask, was if you guys were running a LDH of any brand and if you thought it also helped.
Thanks again- Melon

Hi @Melon2155
I don't use any WDH / LDH.
My tow vehicle has self levelling suspension and advises against using them.
My tyre pressures are set at 45psi, it would be good to hear what other 20.63-1 OB models are using.

Yeh.. I do run the easy lift WDH and with the tyres set on 50PSI in accordance with my complaint plate for on road traveling and no worries at all… I just had another thought maybe look at the U shackles that hold the axel on as well. I have heard of these coming lose too.

Same WDH as this one below >>

We have the 2014 20.63.1 with the older suspension. Run the tyres at 50psi (as per the nameplate) and have a Hayman Reese WDH. Came back from the snow this week at 110kph on the Hume no problems at all. We have the Alko ESC installed as well - can feel it working when the big rigs go past (yep - while I am doing 110Kph !).

For the Moores - make sure you get a breaker bar with an extended socket for the wheels as you will never be able to tighten (or loosen) the wheel nuts using the wheel brace supplied.
