Up here in Queensland, if I were to upgrade our 2.2 kw system I would have my original contract ($0.50 / kw) cancelled and a new one drawn up and would be paid $0.08 / kw so there is no chance of me upgrading. Since installing around 2-3 years ago we got ahead by about $250 but power has gone up so much since that we are now starting to eat into our credit by nearly $100. They have just doubled our service charge as well. >:(

We also use about 9 kw per day but if we are losing out at .50 cents per kw we would have to feed in a lot more than we do to profit at .08 cents per kw. It's even a factor whether we sell or extend the house.

We are in the same boat as @chartrock, so much so we decided not to sell because of the rebate. If we move it is lost. Take it with us, new contract will be 8c if it stays the new owners only 8c.

Hi day @Bluey , just checked what I actually have.
13 panels x 240 watts = 3.120 kW system with 4 kW invertor.
To get good efficiency u want the system to run high , as close to the max of the invertor.
3.9kw on 4 kW invertor better than 1.5kw on 4 kW invertor.
We get back 25 cents, and would go back to 8 cents also if we try and upgrade here in vic.

I love the true solar adds selling 1.5 kW on an upgradable 5 kW invertor just to get you in cheaply, that means buyers run a system not as efficient as it could be, and drop there buy back cents if they upgrade.

If you want to see complaints google true solar complaints, like I did while checking out who to buy from, they have some classics and even made the news.
We have just plumbed our water tanks to the laundry also in an effort to curb rising costs, but the wife won't let me put the news paper in the dunny lol .

Yes, that's what will happen if I upgrade my 2kW system here, lose old contract. New one would not be as severe as in Qld tho. We are breaking even for two out of 4 Qs and pay about $100 in others. Summer is worse because of AC costs.
Thank goodness we have have gas heating in winter!

Nah we only do the one a year as it is a pretty huge committment. Ours is the Maryborough Energy breakthrough and we love it! We are busy selecting our teams at the moment. If anyone is interested in the program their webiste is www.racvenergybreakthrough.net If you are able to get down there for the weekend in November it is well worth the effort. As a teacher is has to be the best event I have ever been invlolved in and this is my 9th year.
Does your son's school enter the Energy Breakthrough @crackacoldie ??
