Sorry it took so long .... i was deleting all the shower photos (well ... all but my favorite one)

Collection at the dealer

My little mans bunk mount Xbox/Foxtel/DVD. I had the pillow/face mounted power points deleted, and added GPO, 12v and antenna to the bunk feet ends

Outdoor entertainment unit ..... Aust Open, Grand final, Bathurst, State of Origin, GP, Melb Cup, Papal Election and any episode of My Little Pony
2014-11-16 15.08.15.jpeg

I noticed the table mount plate and base seem to be metric, and the post imperial .... a shim out of 2ltr plastic milk bottle in the mount and base firmed up the table nicely

I ordered the BEF, but asked for it not to be fitted because i preferred the under lip mount invented by forum members. The van was delivered with the new style lid .... that the BEF supplied wont fit. We had the old style lid installed .... fitted the BEF today with annex track.

This is my 20ltr sullage sump. A work in progress. Theres 2 outlets; a gravity outlet on the right, and a auto activate 12v bilge pump on the left. On flat or sloping away sites the sullage hose attaches to the gravity outlet and the sump just acts as a buffer. On uphill slopes the sullage pipe attaches to the pump outlet and when it gets a couple of inches of water in the sump, the auto pump pumps it away. It should cope with the sink, basin, shower and washing machine all discharging at the same time and if there were an overflow it just ends up on the ground.

It doesnt take up any room, because its the storage for the sullage pipe and all the hose and tap fittings.

No more noodles and Rice Bubbles in the shower. Brilliant !!

@Crusty181, love the pictures of the van!
Can I ask, in the picture of your sons bed/tv where does the Xbox go, is there a shelf, or does is sit on the stove top? Also, on another thread you mentioned about the weight of your van. Would you mind telling me what your one says. Am a bit worried about weights now. ( we have a 2012 manual patrol as our tow vehicle) thanks.

Howdy @Smirke. In the old Expanda the Xbox was set up on the TV bench, but I promised the little man his own TV this time around. He has timed use of the Xbox, so we'll probably just set it up on the bed (or maybe the stove, didn't think of that). I won't be a permanent install (mum won't allow that caper)

Whatever we got was going to be an Outback, because we have a long term trip planned with remote and off road sections. I was really concerned and struggled with the weight of the standard 20.63.1, with regard to my cars tow capacity, carry capacity, insurance, and more importantly safety. With the trip we're planning, we needed ample carrying capacity.

We tried to step down to an 18ft, but Jayco stopped offering the 18ft single Expanda bed model 2 weeks before we made that decision. (great timing). I cancelled the sale of the 20.63.1 OB, and made the unfortunate decision to buy an 18ft second hand Expanda. No real options were tabled by the dealer. We had to find out and research everything for ourselves. We were told the original configuration was all good ..... an ATM 20kg shy of my cars limit. And on top of that, they stated that actual weights could be completely different. A difference of 21kg would mean selling my new van, or buying a new car. Thanks for the safety tip.

Anyway, a mate of a mate had recently ordered the 20.63.1 in the 2013 format, i.e. no slide out. We approached the dealer and was told that in no uncertain term that option wasn't available ..... the mate of a mate van was still in production at the factory; so with a few calls we knock off 100kg with deleting the sideout. Aside from the loss of dancing/floor space the seating and layout etc is only marginally different. We can jig, but we can't foxtrot. But Im a jigger anyway. We have the same area, but we of course don't have that grand sense of space that the slide out has.

The Tare is a touch over 2400kg, and we had the weight savings added to the ATM, capped at my cars tow capacity at 3000kg. So we ended up with over 100kg more van capacity than the standard plated jaycos I added the Alko ESC as well.

Oddly the ball weight is very low at 145kg. Im a little uncomfortable with that; I would prefer at least 180kg with a 2400kg van. I can only assume that the chassis is engineered for the slide out weigh, and its removal has impacted on lightening the ball weight. I ordered the extended drawbar for a large tool box, so in hindsight it will be a godsend because the tool box and goodies should add the required weight to the ball, and it all should balance out nicely.

I would take their ball weight with a pinch of salt, put a scale on it yourself you will probably find that it will be 145kg when the moon is low on a Friday evening in June when Saturn is looking for Uranus.............................much more at other times.....

Your sullage sump operates much like my grey water tank, it doesn't need the pump though. It sits at an angle so normally it will drain to ground via hose or tap off it will hold until full then dumps via the breather onto the ground (tested it works) it doesn't back up into the shower and collects the goobers and yucky bits, cleaning is a cinch. Store bought grey water tanks are asking for trouble eventually, smelly.

@Crusty181 how is the van to tow and do you have WDH? we are getting the 20.63.1 outback in December and plan to tow with Dmax my15. I am a little concerned about the van weight being above that of the ute even though it is still legal.

@Crusty181 that Exapanda is one very cool looking van mate.

Have you stopped smiling yet?
Where is the maiden voyage?
@cruza driver we're heading to Ballarat next weekend for the maiden voyage. We had the last Expanda for 5 years and used it a lot, both on and off the grid ... so I have some work ahead to set it up the way I want it. But we think we have a good base to start.

Awesome pics @Crusty181 ... what an awesome van.

And your "sump" pit is very similar to something I'm in the process of putting together. Mine isn't going to have the pump in it though as, well, I really can't be faffed. If it overflows onto the ground, so be it... :)
@Smergen the pump was $30 and 5 minutes to put in the tub. My pet hate in poor drainage, and uphill sullage. Once the 12v is run and plugged off, there will be zero extra user input ..... I hope

I tested some of the draw on the electics for gererator reference, for those interested.

The Aircon (Ibis) had a very soft start and slowly chugged upto 893w max which surprised me. The generator didnt change pitch throughout. It draws less and hits soften than the Heron in the little Expanda. The heater hit a little harder, changed the engine pitch a little but still only maxed out at 1265w.

The water pump was 95w and the washing machine maxed out at 270w

I have no idea how the stories about the Ibis tripping 2kw generators started ..... I didnt test it with the smart throttle. Just happy with the results
