Heading to Bundeena Sunday night for test setup, also test drive with HD springs.

Good news loaded with van rear height has dropped to previous 3" rear flexi coils unladen weight. Front has raised a little but once wife and I get in this should drop.

Overall happy with looks, van level will know more about handling tomorrow.

So after a quick one nighter, I have a few things to do.

1- Expanda bed ends. The coil sprung mattresses dont fit between the hoop end bar. To close them successful works best at this stage laying the hoop flat on the bed floor, then strapping mattress on top. Will tie a light rope to centre of hoop to allow easy retrieval and smoother lowering while mattress is up on its side blocking access.

2- might replace table top with a skinnier piece of wood to allow easir access in and around club lounge

3- Really dont like the new windows and miss my old wind out windows. I see the larger flyscreens breaking as quite flimsy when separating to open a window

4- Yes the jayco door hitting kitchen window, will make a thingmebob to hold door out winder, so window can be opened. Again with the newer windows, you cant just crack them 3" , you have set openings, so your just stuffed.

5- bolt coverings on expanda wire rope supports for bed. The stupid caps just all fell off, might just take them off and tape up the bolt heads.

6- door locking straps, hallway and bathroom. Jayco put press studs direct onto the elastic fabric, doesnt work. Will get wifey to sew a little fabric on the ends and redo press stud onto fabric.

7- drawer under rear bunk. need to place a wood cover over the drawer so storage on top from outside locker, does not jam drawer

8- Coil spring mattress seems, really digs in, need to get those toppers you talk about

9- Wife slept on top bunk as we had mother in law and sleeping arrangement went out the window. Top bunk has a slight bow wheer the ladder is, upon further inspection. No real wood on top bunk. Botton sheet is hollw wood panel, side panel which is key, is two sheets joining where ladder is, this is where teh bow comes from. Will insert some larger angle , unsure is alloy or steel to provide support.

10- Top bunk handrail, really miss the steel units in my starcraft, has hollow wood, which I can see getting ripped off in time. might be best chaging it out.

11- Yes dislike all the new style handles, need to buy spares as I see them breaking as noted elsewhere

Dont get me wrong I like the van, but I can see where they have started skrimping on quality. Again its not stuff you really notice untill you start using it. Seriously my 2013 Starcraft had much better quality fittings.

Well to think I leave in 1.5 weeks. Still have a lot to do.

Changed out spare to my second spare. While this was off installed rubber/ foam for the Stone Stomper. Then installed the alloy box over the spare. Yes if I need that second spare I will need to undo the 4 U bolts. Primary spare on roof of the Patrol with car second spare. Alloy box now mounted for genie and extra fuel.

Van 1st spare and car 2nd spare now mounted on the car roof.

3 jerry can mount turned up this week and will go on rear bumper. But need to mod as these will sit above bumper for rear drag clearance. Just need to buy some steel angle. Will make sense later.

Got sick of sliding, the slide out in/ out every time I need something in van as on the street. Placed a foot stool other side so can just hop over the lounge, stool needed for getting into rear bed as 4 year old has to jump. Folds flat so just useful.

Just need to finish SS and jerry. An holders. Getting there, plus a bunch of other small stuff

Anyone know the approximate cost of replacing wheels and hubs to match a towing car?

Macca, What car do you have ? also what van/ suspension ? leaf spring and beam axle or JTEC ? Not that much value in my opinion as the van wheel offset is way different then most cars. What and why are you thinking this ?

My car is a PX Ranger, the van is the 20-64.1 OB (so JTECH).

Reasoning is if the wheels are the same, 1 car + 1 van spare means 2 spares regardless of what may happen. If they are different, you only have 1 for each.

Maybe so, but with 8 wheels on the ground, the od's of more punctures are there. I've done a lot of 4WD touring and I wouldn't be caught dead without my 2 spare per vehicle out in remote places. I will be going remote WA and I have the spares already so no big deal.

I think you will find with the different offsets, The van wheels will fit on the ranger (best chance rear wheels) But I doubt the ranger will fit on the Jayco. Have you tried ? I plan to mount my 2nd van spare under the rear on a ute windup/ down winch thing. But just short of time.

I pick up the van next Tuesday. My plan was to get a second hand set of rims identical to the ones on my car and put them on the van. I'll get new (identical) replacement set of tyres and put the 50% worn ones on the van (Mickey Thompson 265/17/65 ATZ3).

Having 2 "universal and identical" spares seems like a better idea.

jayco uses a cruiser hub - 6 stud

the Cruiser 6 studs will fit - but like @Swerve said, the off set is what will be a killer

Patrol rims will also fit (with minor mod) at a pinch

not sure on the Ranger stud pattern though
