Thanks @Bushman, I do like the Paramount caravans, but they are a bit too high in $$$ for us at this stage. The lower cost of the Jayco is a big attraction for us.
.

I here what your saying there, I think that's what attracts us all to Jayco, is the range and value for money and certainly the back up, which is something I can certainly vouch for over the years of 3 Jayco's.
It's interesting Jayco have changed the way the do the compliance plate (going by other threads/posting), "TARE BALL'' MAX BALL'' none of ours had that, the last being 2010 model, simply had Tare ball, Tare Weight, load weight and ATM.

The Golden Eagle is a sub-brand of Paramount (their budget brand) if that make sense and pricing was pretty much on par with the equivalent size Starcraft, must admit the pricing on some of those other brands is a bit scary, you got to wonder how they justify it sometimes, I actually got a quote from another manufacture to build a similar layout, they wanted 10k more :eek-53:

You can get 15" tyres with the load ratings but you need to go 225 or more and that means a 7" wide rim and most of the Jaycos I see have 6" wide rims which really keep you down to around 215's and LT tyres with over 1 ton ratings are harder to find.

I think it's 235's that jayco fit to the 6" rims std. 235/75-15 rings a bell.

Just went and looked at the Journey OB 16" rims. Tyre size is 245 70 R16. Max load is 1090 Kg at 340 KPA (49 psi). Other label on tyre are Tread Wear 460, Traction A, Temperature B. Plys Tread polyester 2, steel 2, nylon 2 and Sidewalls polyester 2. Other markings on the tyre are "Extra Load" "Dot Y9JR" & "L5TC", and I have no idea of the meaning of these. The date is 3114 I presume is the 31st week of 2014 and made in Indonesia.
My compliance plate says my rim profile is 6JJX15 but tyre size is 245-70-R16 so someone has screwed up the rim size on the plate.
Axle Group Load is 2667 Kg and ATM is 2470 Kg.

Okay your tyres should be on ideal rim width of 7" to 8.5".
Load rating would be 111 for 1090kg.
Your date is correct.
Single axle wrong tyre, dual okay but then depends on what the individual axle is rated at.
Traction A is wet road rating AA highest C lowest.
DOT is yank markings relating to who made it.

From what we were told Jayco take the ball weight from the ATM so for our single axle Starcraft the ATM is going to be 2300kg minus the ball weight of 230kg leaving you with a weight of 2070. The 235/75/15 tyres are rated to 1060kg max load *Try posting a bit more so your post isn't boring* = 2160. this leaves a 150kg safety margin. Pretty close to limits as far as i am concerned.

Too close, plus what happens when you change pressures???

Time to ask for a new compliance plate Paul? Your rims will be 8" wide.

Tbh the 245' s on the 8" rims look wrong to me. Ideally they would be 7" wide rims or the 8"s would have 265's on them. But because of the offset and Jayco's superb quality control and accuracy in mounting the inner plastic guard I don't have confidence the 265"s would rub against the inner guard and I am not changing rims as well.

Interesting side note when I orders the Starcraft. I asked about an extra spare on the front (had ordered one on bumper) and all they charged was $200! That's a alloy rim and savero AT tyre.

Jim - how is the rim width measured - my compliance also says 6JJ?
Paul @chartrock - we also had a plate that said 15s were fitted - had that changed early on. My ATM is listed as 2560, 90 more than yours - ball weights on mine different from yours as well.

Just removed the slip on cover from the spare to make sure it matched the other wheels. Lots of red dust that had turned to mud at the bottom of the tyre! I think I will leave the cover off from now on...

Hi @Billrw136 it should be between the vertical parts of the rim that the tyre bead sits on. But somewhere on the rim will be marked the rim width, generally cast in

Rim, load rating and width. On the 15"a they stamp the offset on -9 I think. There's the offset as well it's 0

I think we need a new thread on tyres and rims.

A few of questions as with all the excellent information above I am getting confused.

Do Jayco supply only one size of 16" tyre and rim?
What is the load rating of the 16" tyres that Jayco supply?
What is the rating of the 16" rims?

What should the load rating of a 16" tyre and rim be for a 2.3t ATM single axel Jayco Outback such as the 16.51-3?

@yabbietol click here www.carbible.com.au and/or http://www.bobjane.com.au/info/load-index-speed-symbol/ all ypur questions and more will be answered.
Sorry @Drover first link does not work and I have already have been to the late Bob Jane's web site several times and have found it very useful. :dispirited:
However, the info I lack is what 16" tyres and rims does Jayco put on its caravans as standard. :help:
Unfortunately, I do not have a caravan to check for myself, so hence the request for data to this forum.:adoration:

Knowing Jayco I think it would depend whats on the shelf , but if I was buying one then I would expect to get the info when I was shopping, in writing when I order, if they couldn't or wouldn't put things like weights, tyre type and rating in writing for me then I would say "No Deal" you have lost an order.

I would expect at least a Load Rate of 122 for a 2.3t van probably a 245 70 on a 7"rim with a 1.5t rating, law requires the tyres to be equal or more than the axle rating.

The link will work now I removed the au.

Thanks @Drover I agree with a load of at least 120(1400Kg) or higher, but what they actually do would be interesting.
