We have a 17.52 Jayco Outback Expander with a Dometic B2200 Roof Top Airconditioner & we live in North Qld. From new this Aircon has been noisy & doesn't cool our van very well at all when it is hot, typically during the day, we were just wondering if we are the only ones with this problem, did we get a dud? & if anyone can give us a review on how their airconditioners work, any brand, we are thinking of replacing ours as we have young children which still need a sleep in the middle of the day.

Hi kebe,
Welcome to the forum, we have an Aircommand Ibis. Have only had one trip with it in really hot weather and that was the week before Xmas at charters towers. No days under 35 with one at 42 and it worked really well. Pulled our van down to 18 at night, we also ran it some of the day and got internal temps down to around 27 which was after the van had got hot, so reckon it could keep it at 24 if left on from morning. Not too noisy, just air noise, not to much in the weigh of rattles or compressor noise.
So far we are very happy with it, early days though, and it seemed to review well around the traps.
Hope that helps.

Like Jas, we have the ibis, gave it a good workout over Xmas in hot weather and very happy. Cools the 18 easily! It's also a true reverse cycle heat.

Cheers.

Took my parents' sterling away over the new year period where is got up to 44 degrees. The ibis coped really well. The highest it got to was 28 inside the van.

On a side note, we just ordered our expanda and our dealer said they are no longer using air command and have switched to Truma. Am not sure why.

Cheers

We have the domestic as well. We noticed it was not very cool inside the van on a very hot day and we spoke to jayco about this and we were told due to the expanda's canvas the van will never work like an air con at home. Like everyone else our van gets down to about 27 during the day. If you close the curtains at both ends during the day it also helps reduce the temp during the day. Hope this helps.

we have the air command sparrow and a 16.49-1b panda and just spent a week away where the temperature never got below the 30'c mark during the day and most days over 40'c , our van usually sat around the 24'c mark during the day and 18'c during the night . on days that where over 40'c we shut down the pop top and closed the curtains on the bed ends and found that this worked exceptionally well . hope this helps to keep you cool. the heating part we havent tried yet but have been told its a lot better then the old systems they used to use.

Just bought a 2014 expanda with Truma rooftop air con. Running it at home trying it out water started leaking down from the roof. Is the water suppose to run all over the roof and down the awning sides or should there be a drain hose fitted to take it down the other side out of the way! Cyclone Ita has held up our first trip!

Thats normal, depending on how level you have the van will determine where the water will run off, for our first use the roof was filthy dirty & the water ran down the wall right next to the door & left a big black stain.

Not much you can do about it. I have considered making a silicone channel to send it to the far corner, but it just depends on the level of your van.

I have the Truma one as well in mt 16.49.3,
when we were at Wave Rock, the temps never went below 40' and it was nice, worked well - apart from the water as stated above
also scared the begeezus out of me until I realised what it was......

we had a coleman manual control (low fan high fan etc) in our 2013 starcraft. We are looking at a 2014 expanda with a Coleman Mach but a newer model they say with remote so you can set the temperature. Does anyone have one of these? our previous coleman was terrible in keeping the van cool and was extremely noisy.

I have had my Coleman for about a year now and had no issue's with mine at all. It's worked well at Kalgoorlie, Coral Bay and Exmouth in 38 to 40 degrease every day with no problems at all. Mind you when you first start it up it can take about a hour to cool the van down though in extreme temps. Never had problems with noise either.
In fact a Jayco repair agent told me that their one of the most reliable one's on the market.
Weird maybe you had a Friday or Monday Coleman Mach @Patons
