Hey guys,

Thinking of buying one. I have been scouring the interweb and Facebook looking at ideas and different types. I am looking at one that can be dismantled and packed away in a canvas bag or the like. This way we can use it at home or in the van.

I will probably never cook over it as we have a BabyQ for that job. Just wanting something to sit around and let the kids melt marshmallows to a rubbery pulp!

Be interested to see pics of what you have or if anyone here makes them even better!

Truck brake drums are great but heavy..............................old truck rims do a good job as well but I prefer 3 bits of tin to make sides held up by long tent pegs with fire in the middle, keeps wind away and contains the ash............

Seems pretty good, not a bad price. Found some with NRL logos and they are wanting around $300!!! Pretty expensive for plate steel!

I think if you can handle an angle grinder you can knock one up pretty quickly and cheaply. I have seen plans on the net so shouldn't be hard to find. Mind you for $80 it is hard to go past. Postage to Queensland might be a bit exxy?

Maybe I should start knocking up some of those as well as camp oven swings, and other barbie tools that we all used to make ourselves......there is obviously a market.

We bought one on flea bay last year and it's good.

A bit lightweight but it's plough disk size and has removable legs and a grill plate.

Carry bag as well....about $85 I think

Fella showed me his fire/camp oven stove he made, yesterday while at Innskip, didn't have phone to take pic sadly, but he chopped the top off a gas bottle 9kg, made some tabs on lid and body so lid could go on and not slip off, cut a door and some air slots with a screw on chimney made from exhaust pipe, legs were the old long bolts with nuts welded on the bottom of bottle, to use with camp oven lift lid and oven slips in the top and he just stokes it up at night with the lid off and the kids can burn sticks till the cows come home safely and when finished drop lid on and close door, nice and safe............might have pics of one when I get shed done, say near xmas........oh and a small plough disc for pan cakes.

Anyone wanting to make one similar to the one in @davemc's link these may help! Last place I worked at had a plasma cutter and I was going to make one to see how they worked! Unfortunately I have moved on so looks like I'll be getting the cobwebs dusted off my grinding skills one of these days to see how I go!

The 5mm difference in the slots on the long sides allow the join to overlap and stop ash/coals falling through. When I get around to it I'll be making them 500mm long instead of 600mm to enable easier storage. I would imagine they might need air holes and maybe a small grill on the bottom?

At the moment I am eying off a 600mm Ezy Spit. I think I will go the one with the rotisserie setup, but may or may not use it. At least I will have the option.

Under $200 delivered, Aussie steel and Aussie family business. Seems good to me.

Well I got the EzySpit. It was $159 plus $25 delivery, but I have a code to use as a coupon on eBay that saves $50. Happy with that!

For anyone that would like to use it, you type in C50MORE in the Coupon Code section in the checkout!
