We use the thetford chemicals, lost the battle on no number twos, so females all happy sitting on own toilet when on the road, (stopped for lunch), makes for happy travelling companions, and Wollondilly council putting in 3 dump points, Warragamba, Appin and Picton (trying to catch rv market), so will be able to empty in town.

We are just about to buy ourselves a Thetford porta loo. What type/brands of toilet paper is best to use? Would prefer to be able to purchase from the local supermarket rather than having to buy from the camping store all the time.

@Wanda,

We have used the Thetford paper and also a few different brands from the supermarket. Found the supermarket brands do not break down as easily and on one occasion when emptying the cassette, the paper blocked the outlet and …..

Have gone back to the Thetford paper - yes it is more expensive, but we know it breaks down to nothing and there are no issues when emptying the cassette.

A working toilet keeps the family happy and makes for a great trip!

Buy yourself a shower tent and a thunder box and youll never go wrong - been doing it for years and no complaints ..

Not sure if you already do it @BUSH PALACE, but we cut a hole in the bottom end of a biodegradable bag, and put inside the thunder box, (creates a chute) not much mess to clean up! Just drop bag into hole and fill when leaving.

Is there a Dump Point map of Australia anywhere on the net that you can download.
Would be a very useful map to have. I think the Camps 7 free camping guide has dump points list.
If only my GPS had the option to show these on screen!

Just about to post that. Shows most free camp sites and dump points.
Unfortunately there aren't many on the Stuart highway, our planned July trip to Darwin and onto East coast.
Will map out our planned trip and tag dump points along the way.

NappySan going down the drain is not the same as going into the septic. One is grey/water and the other is sewer. Your plumbing of shower, laundry trough, bath etc do not drain into your septic tank!

Thanks for all your crappy solutions :D. I think I'll use the van toilet and find a spot to empty. Off for four nights at Camp Cobark Glouster :)

@Burnsy , I just looked at that camp. Looks good I'm envious, but it does look like there is toilets there mate. I may well be wrong, but you might not have any issues!

Burnsy,

If stayin in the one spot, dig 1 deep hole (poo pit) 2-3 feet deep. Every time someone goes, just put a shovel full to cover. When moving on, fill it all in.
This is what we used to do before we had a porta-potti (when we had a van without a toilet). It's not as bad as it sounds lol.

We use the nappy powder in the van and it apparently works really well (I don't know because I'm not the one who gets to empty it ;)).

Then where does it go? we use to have Septic (Bio Cycle) and it all went to tank other than storm water

@Burnsy I've just had a look at Camp Cobark, looks awesome, I've got a little girl who is mad keen on horses and horse riding and this place looks the goods. Can you let us know how it goes on your weekend, I'm really interested, thanks.
