Well 3 days before the warranty ends, she's taking another ride. Power steering oil leaking.

How's this for great customer service NOT. "We can't look at your car for 3 weeks, by the way if a Jeep dealer doesn't see it before the warranty ends, it will be deemed Out of Warranty"

Well guess what they be seeing tomorrow parked at their workshop. Checkmate.

    It is important to understand that a manufacturer’s warranty applies in addition to the consumer guarantees. Whereas the consumer guarantees apply to all purchases and cannot be waived, manufacturers’ warranties are offered voluntarily and usually apply to certain types of products such as electrical goods, cars and furniture.

A Good News Story. At the time of the last service, I knew the back left wheel bearing needed replacement. I made sure they had one available to fit during the 120,000 klm service. They rang about midday to say when the got the hub off, they found the bearing had been turning in it, damaging it beyond repair. They were getting one up from Melbourne, that's good I said, how much. About $1000. Not quite sure what I said then but he assured me they were taking it up with Chrysler Jeep as Good Will warrantee. And we will also give you a courtesy car for tonight. A 6.4 SRT would be fine I said, no, we will need to check with the sales department. By the time I got there around four thirty, Jeep had already agreed to pay for the hub under warranty. Off I went in Reggie the Renigade, fun to drive, but I wouldn't want one full time. When I picked the Grand up the next day, all I had to pay for was the 120,000 service, both the cost of the hub and bearing with associated labour, paid for by warranty.

By the way, mine was 14 months and 22,000 klm out of warranty. Really great work by the dealers themselves. There's dealers and then there is dealers.

My Brother in Laws Grande Cherokee Trailhawk spat it gearbox a month out of warranty (full failure)
luckily it was replaced under "Goodwill"
But I'm not so sure I would wan't to be in the middle of nowhere towing my van and this kind of s@#t happening
I think I will stick to the Cruiser :)

While nothing to do with Jeeps, I bought a new ride on mower December last year and by July it had dome just over 8 hours work but the main drive belt had come off twice. The first time they sent a guy out to pick it up but he managed to refit it on site but the second time, two days before we went away for 3 months, they told me it would have to go back to the shop and have the setup adjusted and that it was not a warranty job. Words were exchanged :mad2: and I said to wait until I returned in October. As soon as I returned, I was on to them and it was picked up, still talking about charges. A week and a half before they rang me to say it was waiting to be picked up. No, it was picked up by them, it would be returned by them. OK, how did I want to pay. After being told that if the belt comes of twice in 8 hours use and each time it did, it would have to go back to the shop for adjustment, then the machine was not fit for purpose and I wanted my money back. A few more words were exchanged, :argue: Consumer Affairs mentioned once or twice and suddenly the job was going to be done under "goodwill". It's back and seems to be running OK

My argument was that if the belt could be refitted and adjusted so it should not come off, then it should have been done when the mower was prepped for sale, and if it was not done then it should be done under warranty.

End of my rant and apologies for pirating your thread @BigSkiddy .

We've had similar ride on mower probs and now get very towey if we don't get at least 12 months calm after a service. Toro zero turn.

Now on track so hope yours is as well. It shouldn't happen in the first place!

Good to hear about your positive experience @JohngQld .
Long story short, the dealer has the car. By them having it there can't be any conjecture about the failure outside the warranty. I'm not expecting it to be fixed immediately, however the dealer said they would look at it early next week. Fingers crossed some other customers cancel their appointments.

I've got a John Deere zero turn. Never had a drama in 6 years. I just change the oil and filter myself every 12 months. Shame the towing capacity is a bit low, would love to have it as my main transport.

Yep. They're great ....zippy in and out of traffic lanes but not so manoeuvrable with a loaded trailer. I often visit the neighbour's in mine.

It also has a tendency to lose battery power at the bottom of a gully....not its fault, but mine, as I forget to keep the battery charged up. I'm too mean to replace the battery after about six years ...just challenging it to keep the same battery as long as possible.

But that's where the 4wd gets some off road experience!

I do love the mower and the 4wd....

Be interesting to find out about the leak..........looks like splash from elsewhere or very small weep or did it just dump the lot ?

Mopar power steering fluid is one of the few genuine items that I would buy from Jeep, it's actually the same price even cheaper sometimes than after market fluids...............

Sorry for the delayed response. Basically Jeep said they couldn't find a leak from the steering. There was a leak from the fitting (pictured) Potentially it was dripping down onto the centre of the rack. However the oil around the steering boot is unexplained.

Jeep detailed the original leak (I have a copy) and I have got the car back and given it a 'like new' clean. To date I can't detect any leak, so fingers crossed there is no problem with it.

The Jeep is now a dedicated 'fun only' vehicle as I purchased a Hyundai i30 for my wife as the daily driver. My previous Hyundai gave me close to 300,000km of trouble free motoring, hopefully this new one will do the same.

On a side note, when I adjusted my insurance for the Jeep to state it was not being used to drive to work, it knocked abut $250 off the premium.
