Yes @bigcol they are bloody annoying to the extent that my wife gets out of the car now when reversing with the trailer and now van. The prox sensors I thought about are more for industry than automotive and was thinking about 200mm sensor distance. Don't know if this will work but can't hurt to look :)

Thanks @skippy very happy how the box has turned out, did a lot of research on here and found this to be what suited me.

A further note, another forum member sent me a email in regard to the RCD that I plugged into my inverter and after a lot of research, this subject is very emotive on the various forums, I have now changed my set up. Whilst I was comfortable with what I had, I have ordered a RCD/RVD combo that will better provide better protection. I am not advising any body to do anything but I need to correct earlier posts when I was asked what I used with my inverter. As this is 240V electrical it has to be installed by a licensed sparkie.

Cheers
Larry

Thanks @skippy will put it onto my to do list.
I have in possession now a new label from Jayco stating my GVM is now 1990kgs, was 1890kgs so now have 400kgs to play with. Bad news us now it has to have a vehicle inspection which is booked in for next Wednesday. Now the question, has anybody had this type of inspection and does it entail weighing the van or just inspecting the brakes, axle, tyres and springs. If it goes on the weigh bridge I assume I will have to empty the van and take off the box I have just put on. Wish I had known before last Friday :(.

me, if you have the time and inclination
empty the van of everything not bolted down, then un-screw what else needs to come off.....

if you make it as much as possible back to Standard / brand new delivered
there shouldn't be too many hassles about anything (I would guess..............)

Thanks @bigcol , I was thinking I would be better off to empty and unbolt everything. Glad I didn't put the silicon on under the box yet.

tis annoying, but I can imagine the face on the Inspector's face...... "um, is THIS standard fitting??"
mind you, he probably wouldn't know, unless he has a Van himself............ - just guessing
might have someone who is the full bottle on them.........

never know your luck in the Big City

I would be keeping the equipment you have added like box etc in there, otherwise what is the point of getting a bigger payload. I think you need a true indication of what weight you will be towing otherwise you are only lying to yourself. Nice mods by the way.

Took the van to be inspected on Wednesday and not a hassle at all. The inspector made sure all the appropriate numbers were on the van and they matched the existing papers. Checked the tyres and had a good look at the tow set up and all up about 15 minutes. So happy now I have the extra 100kgs that I already have used with the mods :)I left the box on the front but emptied it as I didn't have the spare on the back then and it was close to the weight distribution from the factory. Left most of the things in the van because I got lazy Tuesday night and could not be bothered and my laziness paid off as it wasn't weighed.

Dropped the van off at the fabricator's and they fitted the spare wheel holder. I think the wheel is a bit high so taking a section off the upright and drilling a couple of holes is within my capabilities. Very happy with the workmanship and it is not something I could do and not be worried it falling off the back. So a big thanks to @dagree for giving me Glen's details and the drawing.

When emptying the front box last Tuesday night there was water in it. Thought it was because my half arsed effort of not sealing the vents last work break. Sealed them this morning and then Perth copped a big down pour. Happy days I thought so I looked in the box and more water >:(. It was coming from the latches. A bit of silicon and tightened the bolts and fingers crossed. Still have a few mods to do, fit the bed end covers, install the Rcd/Rvd, install the remote inverter switch and second water tank and the list goes on :(.

After two days of digging and installing soak wells I got to the important task of mods.
Reduced the height of the spare wheel by 150mm and found the appropriate wheel cover to enhance the van :).

Fitted the bed end covers, put the sail track under the rubber seal like others have done, took a little longer but happy with the result. It is a bit of an effort to get the top press studs to attach so I cut a very small section of the front bed end sail track and it is easier. Will modify it a bit more and do the rear one tomorrow.

*Try posting a bit more so your post isn't boring* for the Royals but I could never let a purple, green or whatever other colour they have been cover spoil the look of the van :).
