Great looking and very practical setup you've got there. Nice having a new tug and new van.

The blue on the tyre will wash off. You'll find the tyre shine Jayco Sydney use is very sticky, especially on the black checker plate.
It takes a couple of washes to get it off. I find using a light amount of Armorall keeps it looking shiny without catching everybug that lands on it.

Good times ahead.

Sorry to hijack the thread, and I apologise if I sound naive.

We’ve ordered a 21.64-1 OB and also have a Discovery 4. We got the July special with the free AL-KO ESC. Is this similar to a WDH or is it ok to use with a Discovery. Coming from a Swan I don't really know much about stability control or WDH.

Alko ESC is no problem with a discovery works perfectly. The discovery air suspension system self levels and recognises when a trailer or van is attached, if you have a WDH (weight distribution hitch) it interferes with the discovery's system.

Hmm, thanks everyone for telling me the WDH interferes with the Discovery air suspension.
Pity Jayco don't know about this! Surely they should approve a towing system before a 20 foot van is towed off their premises!
I will get out our Discovery manual!
So, what exactly should we do? Do we just use the normal towball that came with the Discovery?
What is the Also ESC???

Remember I am a girl!
But I am passing all this on to my husband.

Thanks everyone!

Glad I posted this photo!

We just use the normal Land rover tow ball rides level for us. I know I have heard people use WDH with the Disco although if your manual says NO you might be in trouble if you have an accident.

Some people swap the hitch out for the below
http://store.mitchellbros.com.au/discovery-3-4-and-rrs/discovery-3-tow-hitch.html

ESC same as what is in the car Electronic Stability Control. not 100% sure although I think 2014 models pre wired so you could still get it added. We paid around $1k for it

Love your new van and tug. Very flash.
Question regarding the vans spare wheel. Was it fitted to the rear bar as standard or did you request it there. Also how were the towing mirrors for ease of fitment and view whilst in use.

The van's spare wheel came on the rear bar as standard. We also bought the clothesline that attaches to the bike rack - can't wait to try that out. No more clothes rack blowing over in the wind!

The towing mirrors were fine. The Discovery has huge mirrors anyway. That model of towing mirrors also came in a larger size which I would have preferred (being a very safety conscious girl) but they were not in stock. As our old towing mirrors would not fit the Discovery we didn't have a lot of choice as we needed mirrors to get home! My husband tried these mirrors and said they were just fine.

We absolutely will be removing the WDH. I feel like an idiot for not reading the manual! Just because we had a previous 17 foot Outback Expanda, we were just using the same system for the Discovery. I started reading the Discovery manual but certainly did not get up to the towing section. I have to admit I was getting REALLY don't be rude off with the manual - half the things in the manual are not on my car! Made me feel I was missing out! With the price we paid, couldn't they make user manuals for each model. Or at least mention which models have each particular function.

So, being the super safety conscious naggy wife, what is the SAFEST towing option? I am happy to pay $1000 for the Alko ESC if this is the best option.

You can option up models if you spend the $'s , the Land Rover is normally wired up for a lot of things you do not have.. I have been warned not to play with electrics myself by a number of people. I do know some people easily added those options later as wiring there though.
We got ours second hand 4 years ago been very happy. If things go wrong are not cheap though
Land Rover servicing is not cheap... after our extended warranty finished we swapped to a specialist instead maybe we should of done it earlier.
Have a look around http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/ lots of info.

They are a very nice car to drive. Lots of safety stuff which with kids we wanted. I keep thinking to upgrade our second car (currently Mini) to one that can hold the whole family and with 6 seats and what we want safety wise keep coming back to another Disco.

so I am curious.. if your looking for manuals online you can look here
http://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/topix/vehicle/lookupForm

I can find the Discovery 3 mentions in each manual like
An equalising or other form of weight distributing hitch should not be used with your vehicle.
Although cannot find it on the Discovery 4 manuals.. So yes please check although maybe the below cover this?
To preserve handling and stability, only fit Land Rover approved towing accessories
Ask Hayman Reese about the WDH as well.. If they say they cannot be used it might cause troubles. Please let me know in a couple of years we looking to go to a D4.

Although you wonder how it tows with and without... I have seen a few people with WDH's before although the old D3 S did not have air suspension.

Hi there Kate, nice van, we have recently picked up our new van too.
Looking at your internal photo's the roof vents above the fridge / bunks, did you request those particular vents or where they standard.
Ours are the ones you find in the shower recess, I can't shut out the light for the kids bunks.

Hey Bulldog. Our vents were all standard. Are you saying yours don't have the blinds to block out the light. Is it the same model? 20.63?

Hello Kate , ours is a 21.64.1 and yes that's right, they don't have the blinds to block the light, apparently it is a bit of a hit and miss what hatches you get, cost saving who knows ?. I was offered to by a blind that retro fits over the existing hatch , which I have fitted and does the job just as well.
