Bugga, guess what turned up in the mail.............RACQ $1100 for the Jeep (9)and van (5) full coverage, yikes, up about $200, But from initial searching doesn't seem a lot, may have to eat humble pie and give Youii a ring.........try Defence Service Homes Insurance and see what they cost.

what about that APIA - aust pensioners whatever.......

@Drover just be carful if you do go YOUI, they have great premiums but the amount of cover doesn't seem as good as some other companies that I contacted. I will say though that my sister had her car with YOUI and when she had an accident they were very helpful. They made sure she got a hire car out to here on a Saturday afternoon in country Victoria, so they aren't all that bad.

@bigcol, well APIA isn't cheaper than my RACQ quote and so far neither is anyone else, still a couple more to check............APIA will give lower premiums for old coots if you drive less but we rack up around 30K or more a year so don't qualify.

@Macca666 while Youi have cheaper premiums I can't get by the fact they WANT my card details, like after all these years I sudddenly forget to pay my bills and with insurance I don't want someone ASSUMING that I want to automatically renew............I may be old but I'm not an idiot YET !!!!!!!

One more call to make tomorrow but I think I may call RACQ also and have a little one on one, see if I can squeeze a bit more, you never know. Prefer the motor mobs, have prang they tow it away and tell me when it's fixed.

Well a call to RACQ and they dropped the price and after heaps of on line quotes and phone calls, i will stay with them as mostly they were less, still a bloody lot of coin that could be spent on fuel though................oh well peace of mind with an empty bank account is better than a smoldering wreck and no replacement.

Just looking around at this now. Agree with YOUI pressure sales. Tried to do an online quote & hit Next and the screen says Congratulations we're calling you now. 16 friggin minutes later old mate comes up with a price $320 dearer than RACQ online quote. Tell him not competitive and straight away knocks $200 off. Lost me there. Give me a competitive price upfront. Start looking at who to call next and he calls again 'after talking it through with my boss we can do...'. No thanks I'll keep comparing. Anyway rant over now for a question.

All the PDS/quote forms talk about seperate cover for the annex. Can I assume they will cover the standard roll out awning without this additional cover?

RACQ cover my awning without any extra stuff, just had to tell them what extras I have fitted.........have found the $600 excess on mine can be a pain as when the hail storm did damage I fixed it myself for just under the $600, that was a roof hatch, side vent and awning so didn't bother with the claim.

Thanks Drover. Liking AAMI general coverage & excess but not that they wont cover what I paid for the van (they say max coverage on this van is approx $2k less than I paid). Like you only thing I dont like about RACQ is the excess. Decisions decisionso_O

Agree. I'm up for renewal and went to do an 'online' quote in between some early morning meetings. Get half way and....now we will ring you! WTF. Explained I feel I'd been duped. If that's what how it starts, how might it end if I had a claim. Hung up.

We dropped off our RACQ van insurance as well because of the excess and went to CIL.

When I checked CIL I was surprised how much more expensive they were than RACQ, I think these mobs must have a sliding scale of charges and depends on how many have been sucked in that as to what they charge.
