hi all, as I am getting my first expanda (and first van for that matter) I was wandering if anyone can suggest a good insurance company to use or even an insurance company that I shouldn't use for my van?

Thanks

Welcome aboard @Macca666 you'll find many threads on insurance for vans if you do a search, just see what your regulars company has to offer. In saying that after many years of being with NRMA I have just cover our new van with CIL. price was pretty much on par with some of the others,

CIL are caravan/motorhome specialists
As is MHIA would I have had in he past.

CIL and RACV are the two that I have looked at and as you say @Bushman they appear to be pretty similar to each other. I haven't heard of MHIA but I will look into them and the other forums, thanks

I just switched from RACQ where I have been for years with cars, van and house, to CIL. The reasons was that CIL had a $200 excess, RACQ was $600, they have an agreed value, RACQ pay agreed value or market value, whichever is the least and CIL will give a new replacement van if it is written off in the first 2 years. It cost me just over $100 more than RACQ quoted and I figured it was worth it.

I have been with CIL for 23 years, needed to make my first claim ate last year and now in dispute with them as they are doing all they can to get out of paying. Not very impressed at all. Will be looking for a new insurer once this has settled.

I was deciding between them and RACV, CIL were about $100 cheaper per year but that does make me want to look into it a bit more. RACV do an exchange in the first two years and an agreed value after that.
Time to get back onto the computer and do some more reading.
Thanks

We were with CIL for our first van, but after looking around (CIL, GIO, RACWA, AAMI, YouI, etc) , we went with YouI. Never claimed on the van before. all had similar excesses and coverages, but the stand out for us was the $400 minimum difference in policy. Shame they can't cover our car (the mods did us in there with most insurances), as they only charge the one excess if car and van are together and something happens. Juries out on how good they are, and hopefully it stays that way, if you know what I mean.

Ours is with Alliance... So far so good!
Haven't needed to claim for the van (Touching wood!!) but they were excellent on the couple of claims we made on the house insurance.
Have all our insurances with them and get 20% discount on each so happy with that.
