You know what, I think this move by Holden will cause a dramatic downturn in their sales over the next few years. Ford are Ford, people know they are a US company, but I see Holden as being a bit more Australian, you know "Australia's own car and all that". Soaring will correct me but I think it was only until about XA when Ford became very Australian. Holden were designing their own cars back from the 48-215 although all early models heavily were US influenced. I don't see the point anymore of rebranding imported models, it just wont be the same. They might as well just call them Chev's. As far as I am concerned, Holden as a brand is dead, it is just on life support for a couple of years until they pull the plug. We can look forward to cars from Korea, Thailand and the US! Whoopdy Doo!

Bathurst in 2017..Mustang Vs Camaro. Probably mow the lawn that day.

I pretty much agree with your sentiments @maccayak
I'd say the XR Falcon would be considered Ford Australia's first home grown car, but it did rely heavily on the global parts bin.
I was surprised to hear that Holden is closing the engineering centre as well. World class engineering that has been servicing GM globally for years, and also supporting launch activities throughout Asia Pacific as well.
Ford has chosen to retain this skill base in Aust, so at least the Aussies are directly influencing the next generation of cars we will get here. Lucky for me...
