How old was your anode @Pace? How bad was the anode?

Van will be 2 on Fathers Day. Also took pic of new vs old anode (with a piece that come out from the flushing of the tank).

Rate of sacrifice depends a lot on water quality/mineralisation, and to some extent the actual anode you get. I filter Melbourne water into tanks and like Pace get a few years, others will just get 12 months. Worth checking each year as recommended, but you should be OK for two years Brad. Great idea to date the anode.

:eek-53: I hope we didn't drink all of that anode. What are they made of anyway?
Usually Magnesium for caravan HWS so very safe for normal folks (and even @Brad, I don't think any issues he's got are related to his Suburban HWS).
It's much better to put cold water in your kettle/jug/coffee machine as the hot water can be a bit harder and may cause quicker buildup of scale. Same rule applies at home of course.

I checked my HWS today to see if the anode needed to be replaces, thought I had sealed the unit housing with silicon before draining, but mus have missed somewhere as water came int o the van. Dried it all up and applied a lot more silicon on the joins, Hopefully I got it.

Anyhow my anode is in very good condition considering I used it for quite a while in Lightning ridge, (most of the water in the unit is good old country NSW rain Water). I wont need to replace it just yet. 18 months on, this is what mine looks like.

So today was another job to re pressurised the hot water system from the replacement anode. Plumbed up the van as per normal if we got to a site, check the system for any leaks where i opened it up (per previous posts), plugged in power, switch on system and yes as per normal it warmed up and clean hot water come out as it should.

Happy camper. Pace.

I took my anode out the other day to check it, because it's been well and truley over 12 mths since the last time I replaced it
it wasn't to bad considering. It had worn away nearest the nut but the rest was still pretty good, but thought may as well replace it, so in the bin it went. Mobile serice guy is coming this week so he can put the new one in.
