Touche @bigcol But people will soon learn.

I have to admit (just to myself mind you) that the Jheeps are getting quite good

time will tell if they make it into the BIG 3 of all time great tugs - Landcruiser, Range Rover, Patrol.................

but it is one of the best of the new generation of 4wds........

@macca oh dear didn't think of that lol hahaha
Grab yourself a couple of the cheap $50 Dick Smith type handheld UHF radios. We use them for talking to each other when reversing into a caravan park site. They are priceless for that; the kids can play with them, and we leave one with our little man when he goes to bed and we're sitting away from the van.

MHO - if you want to be sure, get it checked out, let them know you are using it for towing, and want to make sure its all ok
Radiator, Water Pump, Hoses, Thermostat, Radiator Cap........
maybe fit an external Transmission cooler - never hurts
also - not sure if they ( Pajero) have one - but have a look on eBay - there is a guy who sells Temperature gauge and wiring for the Auto Transmissions

never hurts to be sure everything is A OK

if your Mech is honest and reliable, he should be able to help you and commend the right way to go.

Hi. Bigcol's suggestion is spot on. Get it checked out.

The Pajero is a very solid and reliable towing machine and ours in stock standard form served us well for almost five years. All we used was a weight distribution hitch. I drove it in drive and constant 4wd switching to 4th gear at the sniff of a hill or when the torque converter was slipping (you can hear the revs rise to around 2500rpm at 100kmh from around 2200 from memory for no extra speed - slip it across to fourth gear).

Ours certainly had a transmission cooler as standard and I think your does too. The Victorian pajero forum is an excellent source of information too.

But do you know the complete history of the car? Given it's nine years old, I'd have your light flashing investigated.

On your question of speed - drive your own drive. That is, don't be pushed into speeds you are uncomfortable with. Get a good set of mirrors and know who is behind you. Let people pass when it's safe and try to be smooth with everything you do - accelerating, braking and those all important corrections in the way you steer and corner.
In my case I tend to stay away from anything over 100 - unless I'm on excellent roads with plenty of shoulder. Usually with this van (big and heavy) around 93-96 kmh.

And look after you tyres and pressures. I ran my Pajero tyred up around 44psi and the same in the van.

Safe travels.

Surprised no one has mentioned that Pajero's also tow with the transfer in 4H position not 2H, and was mentioned in 4th gear.
No mention of which van you tow but 05 Pajero are only 2500 kg tow rated
Dont try to hold the speed up long hills drop a gear if need and keep the revs about the same.

Haha no foot to the floor. We keep the revs to about 2500 going up a hill.

my father - when he was towing in either of his Paj's used to sit on 2500RPM
sometimes this was 100Km sometimes it was 60km
he had a 2010 Exceed V6 petrol
and a 2013 Exceed Di-D diesel

he was more than happy with both

he towed a 22' Coramal Van with both around Australia a few times

We have a 17:56-2. Our pajero had one previous owner. Hubby has taken car to local mechanic 5 mins from the caravan park. We told them what we are towing and they suggest they flush the radiator and clean it out.
