Thanks @bigcol @ @achjimmy :)
Was serviced by local mechanic and they service auto transition.

Another topic ' we are doing the speed limit but get a bit worried doing over 100, we are in a 110 zone at the moment.

drive at whatever speed you feel comfortable with - sod the rest of them
if you only want to do 100 - then do it -
it is a "recommended Maximum speed limit"
not a "you must sit on 110 or else"
besides, its only against the law (here in wait awhile) if you are doing MORE than 40kms below the sign posted speed limit............

Just a update, light hadn't come back on but temperature gauge keeps going up when we go up hills, then goes down under half way. Is this normal?

Given is still quite cool, I wouldnt think the engine temperature shouldnt rise too much on the hills, but its been a few years since I have owned a Pajero, so it may be normal.

I'd suggest trying it on a few long hills to see if it stays within a normal range (ie the guage doesnt go over high). If it climbs up over high, then it may be worthwhile discussing with your mechanic.

I'm sure there are some other Pajero owners on here who can tell us if their temp guages move around whilst towing.

yes it will be normal, mine alarm for the water temp needs to be adjusted, I think its set at 100*, and it should be at 110*

you car is doing a lot of work pulling (towing) something that is half the weight again of your car ................

so when going up hills - it will be working hard - so the temp will go up, once on flat ground or going down hill, the "load" on the engine wont be there, and it will cool down

I'm worried it will cook the motor, but as u said @bigcol it is pulling a big load. Temp goes up 3 quarters to 80percent, but then drops back to normal.
Has anyone upgraded to a bigger radiator or changed the thermostat?

to explain, your cooling system will be set with a Radiator cap around 115*-120* (my Patrol is)
the gauge on the dash has
cold (0*)
normal (95*) - (like a half way mark)
and boiling - (120*)
from between normal and boiling is the "red zone"

not sure on the temps on a Paj, but I would guess they would be similar

now, every one knows water / coolant will boil at 100* if in an open pot........
however, your cooling system is a sealed unit (DONT TAKE THE RADIATOR CAP OFF WHEN HOT) so the temps can and DO go over the 100*

it will be normal for the engine temp to raise as you are going up hills, just modify your driving from Ayrton Senna to that of a lovely day drive.......

My Jeep does the same thing.
On one occasion I actually kept pushing it in a deliberate attempt to see if the needle would go into the red, but it just stayed at 3/4.
Sounds stupid for me to do that, but the car is still under warranty and wanted to see if it was going to be a problem in the future.
One driver must have got a shock when I overtook him coming up Kangaroo Valley.
But then again it is a Jeep.

likewise when my Patrol was new (1999) it could and would do that
now with 280K on the clock, it gets a bit warmer.......

I've had the rad replaced, new water pump etc........
but, old age gets to machines as well as humans............
