My Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0L CRD did 16L on the recent trip to the snow. I was busting to get there and it was up hill.
14L on the way home, all down hill I guess.

As already said, a lot of factors come into play.

Give the kids a sandwich instead of Maccas on the road and you've recouped your losses.

Way back in the 1970's I had a Falcon with a 351 Cleveland engine, with some modifications, that cruised at 12mpg and on occasions the 36 gallon tank couldn't get me from Mt Gambier to Adelaide. It was capable of getting down to 6mpg but as fuel was 50c per gallon who cared but one 3 day weekend cost me $200. I had a Range Rover (3.5 litre, low compression with carburetor) for 30+ years that also drank like you wouldn't believe. Anything else now is so much cheaper to run that I no longer get anal about fuel economy unless there is a significant variation from normal. Now you know why the fuel companies are so rich, it was me.
I used to get 11mpg form my 351 XB but it did run mid 12's over the quarter

Call me anal if you like, but checking on mileage is something I have done since I bought my first car at 17 for 85 quid back in my college days. 1962 Ford Anglia 105E that was totalled in a rear ender by a French coach on Portsdown Hill in Portsmouth in the dark, in a rainstorm ( no licence up to that point and the L plates were in the glovebox and makes yet another interesting story of vehicular carnage for anyone who may have read previous posts).

Even now some almost 40 years later, I check mileage on every tank of fuel. Perhaps Something was missing in my childhood to make me so fixated. Hence is why I use the Fuelly site as noted below because it feeds my need to do dumb things like this and makes me drive like a granny to improve my "score"

I have a navara d40, with a few mods. Usually get between 10.5 to 12 light engine, first trip in the van with a 20 to 25 knot headwind I was is the 22's. Without a headwind like that I get round the high 18's not bad I thought for a 2.9t brick to drag around. I use cruise control most of the time unless there are a few hills to climb.

We have a 2013NW 3.2L Pajero.
My average since owning the car is 10.2/100 ( i have it all in a spreadsheet )
My weekly average is usually around 10.4 as i drive in heavy traffic. :(
Best HWY was 7.8 / 100. Avg HWY is 8.6/100.
Towing - have only towed twice since having the car as we have been busy this year so far but gets high 14's to low 15's but these were both short trips with wind and hills.
Have a 4000km trip in September so will know much more then.

Latest trip, a weekend sporting stint for my son out to Mudgee from Sydney via M1, Hunter freeway, Golden Highway, Ulan Road.
Achieved 20.8lt/100km driving at a sedate speed with the 17.56-2OB behind. Must admit it is not the flattest of journeys.

Conclusions so far after several trips. The pathfinder is not suited to towing. The economy is rubbish and it feels like the "tail is wagging the dog" syndrome.

The wife may have given me the approval to get a better tow tug.

We also have a 2013 NW Pajero and its best towing was 10.2l/100km at 100km last year. I even have a photo of the GPS and the Mitsubishi display of fuel economy. It was on the Nullarbor with a 30km/hr + tail wind. Typically it was around 12l/100km, this was towing our Avan Cruiseliner which had a very low profile and an ATM of 1.2t.

What weight (ATM) are you towing @Antman with the economy above?

Are people showing figures of cars computer or actual fuel going in tanks? From my experiance there is a BIG differance.
Anyway, my old petty Cruiser dont have a fuel trip meter so my figures are from fill up to fill up
Best 15.8lts/100kms not towing unloaded, 20lts/100kms fully loaded not towing and 22-24lts/100kms fully loaded towing 2T van. High yes but take into account simple electronics/basic fuel system, if I have a break down it'll cost me a small amount to get going again, your highly fuel efficiant diesels will cost both arms, both legs and more. Its not all about economy..........

Ford Territory TDI ,Warrnambool -Dandenong and back 13.2l/100 sitting on speed limit

Yep, the Colorado is always on the optimistic side by 0.5 to 1l/100km.

Having said that, cracked into the 8's on the highway run up and back to Shep on the weekend, so pretty happy with that. Current averages are:
  • Trips involving towing - 4734km, 600L @ 12.68L/100km
  • Trips not involving towing - 3779km, 363L @ 9.61L/100km
Interestingly (and pleasing) that we've used the van more than not! :)

The petrol Disco is pretty close for fuel economy.. 300ks we put 60 litres in :) Range to go its pretty hit and miss, I have seen it drop from 80k to 40k in 1 min :( Hence towing we now fill up around 300k mark, so on the long trips I plan the next fuel stop when we get back in the car after paying for the last.
I assume its a added safety feature for the Disco the 80 litre tank while towing means you need to stop every 3 hours to have a break. No idea what we do in a Prado with the long range tank.
