a question about the external entertainment unit...

We have a 2016 build Starcraft, fitted with the external entertainment unit. There are audio leads inside the hatch - the same type as fitted at the tv bracket inside the van.

When using the tv outside, I am unable to get tv audio through the external speakers. I checked to ensure the outside speakers are active (eg whe BT audio is selected I get sound outside). But nothing from the tv. Any hints for something I've missed before I have to call the dealer?

I assume the external AV must feed back to the internal radio - so there will probably be a second input source on the radio that would be dedicated to the external input -

eg Tv1 on the radio might be input from the TV inside and TV2 possibly outside, may also be AUX2 etc depending on the radio setup.

Do you have tv audio working through your stereo speakers inside the van? I would start inside and understand what gets you working inside then venture to the external plug, is it a full compliment of 4 speakers inside and 2 outside?? If it is only 2 inside and 2 outside I could see them using the front and rear (fade) to go between inside and outside if you have 2 speakers inside and 2 speakers outside? I'm sure there is some sort of splitter or ability to control and inside vs outside when listening just to music. Out of curiosity what is the audio leads you mention inside as well as outside? Is it rca ports or a simple 3.5mm headphone port??

Our van has no internal or external speakers and want to fit some, so I curious what Jayco have done in your case.

Cheers,

Yeah, tried all the inputs on the fusion system. No joy. Hmmm

Hey,

What was the outcome as I had the same issue but have not tried fixing it yet, I just used the external tv speaker at the time and have not been away in the van since. Im going away on Thursday so I might look into it tonight after work.

No answers yet mate, haven't been to the storage yard to check it out. Been meaning to drop in to the dealership to talk to them, but you know how it goes...

I had a look at mine last night, my issue is that the TV I am using outside does not have Audio OUT (only in fibre optic). This was a spare TV from the house that was never used. I was thinking of getting a bigger TV for outside so there is my excuse for the missus.

I have two Sphere TV's in the van - one in the living area, the other in the young blokes bunk.

The one in the living area can successfully output it's sound to the speakers when connected to the Fusion system. However when I take that TV outside, I can't get sound from the speaker system (TV speaker works fine).

I dunno what I'm missing - I believe I've checked all the possible 'input' settings on the Fusion system, and have also tried the internal/external speaker fading.

I've probably missed something - and it will probably be something simple.

Anyway, hoping to get to the dealership this week to chat about it, but time is just not in my favour at the moment.

So I went and bought a tv today, not many TV's today have audio out RCA leads to start with so won't connect straight to the provided points. The only outputs now for sound are fibre optic or headphone jack, so I ended up buying a headphone jack cable that turns to RCA male at the other end, I then bought 2 female joiners to connect the Jack lead to the RCA provided. All good works well.

I then tested it If i can have both TV's running through the speakers one inside and one outside at the same time. It doesn't quite work, both TV's come through the speakers at the same time, on both TV and AUX source. BT source said no device connected.

Basically you can only have one TV running through the speakers at a time.

It may be because I am running through the headphone Jack, maybe connected to audio out RCA if you find one will work.

I'm going to settle for using the outside TV built in speakers, it's probably more polite to others anyway but I was curious when you brought it up.

Let us know if Jayco come back with an alternative.

For what its worth we had the same issue with our outdoor ent unit RCA's ... they forgot to plug them into the back of the stereo. Doh.

Ah, righto. That would make sense.

I might have to investigate how to remove the fascia panel holding the stereo in place - see what I can see.... :)

While they were at it, I also asked them install the Fusion rear USB extension and poke it into the cabinet behind the stereo. The stereo is supplied with the extension, they just dont bother putting it in

I removed the panel housing the stereo and drifter panel. There was only one set of RCA leads running to the stereo. Either Jayco have not run the leads through, or there are joiners hiding somewhere (joining the cables from the main TV to the ones from the external unit).

Either way, there is no RCA connection between the cables in the external entertainment unit and the stereo.

I might talk to the dealer about it, but am reluctant to have them undertake any major rectification work. I'd prefer to 'survive' with a semi-functional external entertainment unit.

A clothing rep was he?

You've certainly got the moving on bit right!

Out of curiosity, and because I'm too lazy to sift through your numerous magnificent posts, how long have you been away now?

and....how long do you anticipate you'll be away? or is that to be ignored in case you suffer a decline....if so I can well understand

and... any major observations on the nomadic long term lifestyle?
(Details I can do without for obvious reasons)

Hey @Dobbie, we've on the move for just on a year and unfortunately we are due home in 6 weeks.

I am compiling a list of Crustys Mind Blowing Revelations. The most striking thing would be the number of younger 30s and 40s working age family people on long term travels.

All of them are very happy, and none of them regret making that decision to do it. That might seem a Capt Obvious thing to say, but its significant considering how many people "want to" do it, but will never do it and often reel off the "I wish" or " ... one day"

All of the long term travellers we've met are just very average Joe's, with normal jobs, average incomes, averages debts, and previously predictable lives ... and im in that group.

My point is i suppose, the biggest relevation is how much stuff doesnt really matter, what stuff is actually important, now is always way better than later and in hindsight how "easy" it would be for a lot of people to do this, and how "easy" it is sometimes to find reasons not to.

It completely re-set my view of the world ... well, maybe not the world; certainly my world

(I want to keep going, and go back around the other way ... The Princess has called time, just because our 10yo apparently needs physical school, his mates and socialisation. Damn it)

Now for the cheezy stuff. Turn away if you have a weak stomach. We are a closer family now than we were (in fact i was a bit so so about these people before) and we have thrived just 'us against the man'.

For the More Than One Year On The Road Continuous Travelling With A Van Club, the mighty Navara is the greatest vehicle on the planet. (This is my thread, so unless your also in the More Than One Year On The Road Continuous Travelling With A Van Club, keep your unqualified, uninformed, baseless opinions in check ... :p)

Thanks for that!

I totally agree with all those sentiments, particularly the one suggesting you just do it..and how it changes your perspective. The important things in life become very soso after a while. I experienced this when I took timeout, a house, a mortgage, extended family and a high pressure job which was consuming me....didn't have the time or the energy to identify the issues...so hit the road for nearly 12months and found out what was really important to me.

Result: came back happier and healthier and a damn site easier to live with. Poorer, still had the mortgage etc but expended energy on doing things smarter and some just didn't get done. The important thing was I no longer felt driven.

My experience was that you need a few months of fending for yourself to get to that point...we moved from holiday mode to life mode ....and that lasted.

I suspect you'll find some readjustment necessary but get back into the swing easily...but will know what's important and what's not.

Oh, so sentimental and retrospective.

:blah:

Enjoy the last few weeks and worry about things when you get home, not while you're still enjoying the travel.

Richer? Poorer? Its all elementary, and very subjective. You sound richer to me. My only issue is convincing The Princess to stay in the car as we drive past.

Agreed. I not sure when the holiday turned into a lifestyle, but it certainly did at some point, back whenever .
