Jeeperific MkII has been with us a month now, still very impressed I must say....................... A week or so ago the dealer emailed me as they think they had found the missing spare key fob, they bunged it in the mail to me 10 days later I'm wondering where it has got to when a lady comes to our front door with a package that was left under her front door mat, she found it today and there was our key fob, AustPost on the ball again but at least we now have 2 keys and can stop worrying, keyless start fobs for Jeeps from a dealer will end up slugging you about $800 all up, I had lined up one from Jeep USA which once programmed would be $300 , big problem solved ..................................... I can certainly see why there are so many of these things towing rigs aorund, it doesn't know the Van is behind and tranny/engine temps are in a nice zone as well but when camping by a river I think I'll be missing my Ute but certainly not when dragging Big Mal down the highway.................

Had a good read of the 3 yr Warranty they gave me, not worth the effort really as it only covers $1000 for the various sections ie: covers $1K for gearbox repairs or $1K for fuel system which is pump/injectors etc, just one injector and lifting the bonnet would burn that up.....so not really all that great a bit like private health you still loose a big chunk from your wallet after jumping thru all the hoops..............

While I like Bundy I prefer to stay at Elliot Heads............the other camp grounds are just too compact for my liking....at Elliot Heads I need sites 40 to 44 I think are the ones that I fit into.

Yeah, its one of those mongrel things, gotta carry a Choofa underneath but since we regularly travel the distance it does a regular burn, so far no drama...big pain but since I don't do dealer servicing my vehicles, Jeep, Hi Lux and Yamaha , are safe .......... plus I should mention the recent Hoo Haa about a Jeep fuel system imploding is a slight beat up, same thing has happened to Fords and GM's using the same Bosch pump .................

The Jeeperific MkII has racked up a few hundred Kms towing Big Mal around, I now understand why @DRW just says get in and drive, it is amazing, no need to go manual with the 8 speed auto to keep tranny temps down, hills, headwinds my tranny stays around 90 deg and pulls like Mal aint there... I'm impressed, the WK2 leaves the earlier Grands behind .... this Italian V6 is very nice and the self adjusting shocks actually work, no real need for adding air bags to the springs but I will as it will just make the ride better in corners I think .................. and with 14lts/100km being my worst burn rate towing, I'm bluddy happy and thats not being a stodgy old coot drive, its been peddle to the metal and cruising at a $$$$ quite often.............It certainly makes up for the headache of packing up the gear, be easier when Big Mals mods get sorted.

First vehicle, tug or truck thats an auto that I didn't have to pop it into manual to get better performance .......................and with the same old spanner man working on it things should be sweet and the plastic engine heat retainer is hanging on the shed wall where they all should be.

The original Michellin tyres are soon to be dumped and some nice Geolanders fitted, they might be a few $$ more than others but the flamin things will last and not evolve to noisy buggers after 40K like most of the other rubbish, should see at least 70K if we do our usual 16,000 km towing schedule so about 3 yrs if lucky.

Looks like a move up in the world with your latest tug @Drover. With a V6 and 8 forward gears, it should be better than your previous Colorado 4 cylinder 6 speed auto too. Happy motoring!

Horses for courses and the Colorado for long tours off grid beats the Jeep handsdown but I needed the excellant ride for the Bride, the engine/gearbox are a bonus, the Jeep and Big Mal are getting rejigged to be another awseome off grid combination.....An official GCM would be nice to know.
Added bonus going from a Class 6 4cyl to a Class 1 6cyl is cheaper rego....

Surprising comment on comparison between both tugs @Drover , but I guess you are in a position to decide this, as it suits your own intentions. Being a dumb bum, how come your 6 cylinder Jeep is cheaper rego than the 4 cylinder Colorado? I thought that rego was based on number of cylinders for Qld rego. Perhaps it is a situation of which I am not aware as I also have a 6 cylinder sedan which is definitely dearer than the 4 cylinder Colorado even with a Seniors Card discounted rate.

I have no idea just the $ on the rego. I just took it as being a different vehicle class.

Well the Jeep has new rubber, 4 Yokahama Geolanders and boy do they ride nicely, took a very sizable chunk out of the wallet but I'm sick of buying cut price or some other great brands, finding they don't last and make a racket after 40K, these should get 70K with the amount of towing I do and stay quiet and stick to the road well all the time.
I have even given underneath a good dose of waxy anti rust stuff, inside all the nooks and crannies, while I had said when I moved it will be done in a shop next time since I have no more hoist, the prices quoted were just not possible for me so I got out the old gear and made one hell of a mess spraying the crap inside and out, so if I take it onto the beach it should be okay and I know all the holes to stick my hose in for a flush when I get home...

Have also found out that since I do a few fast runs of 50km or more regularly the DPF doesn't need to go to Barbie mode as the temps are enough to burn the crap out, saves fuel too, checking the Torque Pro with the extra pids I added seems to confirm this but if it all works and doesn't cause me grief then I'm happy, burns fuel at a disgusting 8.4l/100 and I don't pussy foot, I drive it and on a soon to depart tour I will get to see how it really does on a long tour, the recent onbes it gave me 14-15's so damn happy with that............

Oh and @Boots in Action , I discovered why the Jeep is cheaper to rego than the Colorado, for some reason being registered as Ex Serviceman the Jeep gets cheaper if full rego then its heaps dearer ($936.80) even with the Ute ($793.30)being class 6 CTP..... soon see if their online quote is right as rego due in Feb..........

Merry Christmas @Drover . Nothing like doing it yourself, even if it is a "messy" job! It will be interesting to receive feedback about your 6 cylinder tug and how well it performs on a long run towing "Big Mal" compared to your former 4 cylinder tug Colorado.

Also, as I too have a Veterans' Card and Lapel Pin for concessions under the Covenant for Ex Servicemen, it will be interesting to see what, if any, discount is allowed when I register my 4 cylinder Colorado in April. Last bill was for $751.80 with class 6 CTP. No concessions) . On my other car (6 cylinder), an amount of $254.40 concession was allowed for Senior's discount provided by Queensland Government, so reducing the full charge of $904.10 (class 1 CTP) to just $649.70. Mrs BIA is also a senior and the car is registered in her name. There is a bigger saving by applying for the Seniors' discount on the 6 cylinder vehicle than on the 4 cylinder Colorado tug. Concession only available to ONE vehicle per family.

Here in NZ for three months touring again in the 2012 Grand cherokee diesel Overland Full years rego cost was around $286.00 .up to 3.5 ton van rego $100.00 We are getting screwed in Aust .
Even comprehensive insurance much cheaper. Can get diesel for around $1.30 to 1.59 plus the road users tax of 68 cents per 1000 klms .Good to be breathing clean air for the first time in three months.

I think the standard Veterans concession is the same as the pensioners, Exservice is for returned which gets a bigger discount ...... I have to pay full price for the old Hi Lux though.

Hey @Drover good luck getting 70K from the Geolanders, they told me earlier this year when I fitted them to expect 40 - 50K but yes they are the best tyres I've had on the Jeep so far, and if you can't get down to 6.5LPH without the van youre speeding, have a great christmas

Just had some good news in that my favourite place for Jeep spare parts, Rockauto.com in the USA has started shipping to Australia again after stopping things due to the GST BS charge, means a saving of hundreds of $$ for some items and they supply quicker than places here, they have a very comprehensive list of parts for many vehicles not just Jeeps, so long as you remember some parts need to be right hand drive something they do cater to,.... even got some Colorado bits from them. But you do have to know details about your vehicle like most catalogues the listings are extensive.
