This is sort of related.
I am converting some 9kg cyl's for camping fires.
The first 1 is what I needed last few nights of the trip away, we were able to borrow 1 thankfully. Better half wants a simple fire basket, I want to carry it with ease so a 9 kg cyl fits my needs well.
I started with a collection of out of date cyl's, 2 for me and 1 for a mate.
On the right is the fire basket which is almost fished.
I started by making a cradle to sit the cyl in, and marked it out for the drillings which are with a normal hole saw but I got a better quality metal cutter 25mm size.
Next shows the 25mm holes and the vertical cuts. The cuts were made by 1st using a jig saw to make a slot long enough to get the grinder in with a narrow cutting disc.
Next I cut the lower stand ring of, and then made the difficult cut around the base. The cut was on the underside of the roll so that I keep some rigidity in the sides of the basket at the top for transport in a 9 kg cyl mount.
Now here it is looking inside, the cyl base is cut of and is the opening for the top, the base dome is welded to the carry - valve protection collar.
Now for the tidy up, deburr the sharp edges and a lick of fire proof paint.
Then a trip to go and christen it.
The other cyl is going to be a copy of an Ozpig, or Oztrail outback oven thingy, not sure yet.
Few jobs to do before hand.
