Hey @Smirke if you end up going from the east on the Gibb we may end up bumping into each other somewhere along the way :), I think we were going to be about a week ahead of you guys but we are coming from Derby and going to pull the Panda all the way through....well thats the plan at the moment. A friend of mine was up their last year with his CT and was saying that every second van was a Jayco both big and small, so there seems to be a lot more people taking them up there now.

PS: we probably have room for a couple of kids on the roof rack if you need some space ;)

thanks for the offer @burnsie . (I'm sure toby will offer to go with you guys!) Not sure which end we will go thru. Hubby is still.."not taking it, it will break", but I'm not really fussed. If we don't take it, my preference is to leave it at Fitzroy or halls creek. If we take it, then I've got a bit of prep work to do on it, and get a second spare for it as well.
what date are you starting? on my prelim itinerary I've got it at 6th or 7th July.

We are currently looking to start the GRR from the Derby end on the 13th June if all goes to plan finishing up on the east side @ El Questro by around the 27th "ish" (Well thats what the itinerary says so far........)
Cool. You can let me know what the road's like.:clap2:. I'm still at work until the end of Jun, but my plan is to drive straight there and get started. Am going to look at booking in a few c'van parks from today, as I've been pricing barrier reef trips. (Pricey when you have 6!)

sounds like a plan @Smirke we too have some parks on the list but have not yet booked any, thinking places like Broome and Exmouth even though it won't be school holidays might still get pretty busy so we probably should give them a call, you planning on going to Fraser as well whilst in QLD?

Not at this stage. I have as far as Yeppoon pencilled in but thats it. Kids wouldn't say no to going to theme parks again, but think we will be there during their school holidays, which I'd rather avoid this time around. Have to be back in time for term 4, unfortunately, so am bit unsure whether to knock off a few days at places or just not do theme parks.
Am definitely staying at daintree, looks awesome!

Exmouth is very busy whether its school holidays or not, we got into the overflow and honestly those sites were the pick, nice and generous in size. The Big 4.

Pity about the timing @Smirke, we live 10 minutes from most of the parks and have plenty of room for a van but we will be heading for the Flinders meet from July through September. Would have been great to meet and greet. :(
Would have been great to meet. The only eastern stater (yes, that is a word.....well, my word anyway!) we have met is @17triton , when he recognized the van in Warrnambool. That was really cool! Maybe next time.

I'd do coral bay over exmouth myself. (Although I am biased, we go every April). Bayview is cheaper, bore water showers, smallish sites. Peoples park is exy, freshwater showers (really nice), closer to beach and larger sites which have more green grass on them. This year we are in people's. Got a permanent booking every 2 years.

Well, after stuffing up my payslip multiple times (pays to read them, sent off one from 20/2/2015 and couldn't figure out why they wouldn't accept it....ha ha ha), the go ahead has been given for the cruiser.
Better start spending money on the van before the cruiser comes (possible March I think I was told) otherwise there will be nothing left for the poor panda!

Well, the new BWB (big white beast) is on its way. She (I need more females in this house) is due to arrive on the 24/2, and then we get to collect her 2-3 weeks later. Just in time for the caravan and camping show!! (Phew, have to go to the show now!)
To say Im freaking out a bit is an understatement. Got all the "did we do the right thing? holy cow, we leave in less than 150 days, coral bay is in 9 weeks" rubbish going thru the head, along with the usual work stuff. Time to eat some chocolate I think. Id go shopping, but need the money for the car. ha ha.

I'll keep mine crossed for you also. Ours isn't as tight, thankfully. Our trip away is the school holidays, so we have a tiny bit of time.
I went in to ORE, which is where Toyota will get the "stuff" added. I asked if they could tentatively book me in, but the guy says he will talk with the Toyota guy and see if they can do it all in one hit. (He's done it before, so hopefully shouldn't be too much of a problem)

Everything is getting very tight, at this stage we will get it on the 16th March, I've tentatively booked it in to ARB on the 17th, and the van pickup is the 19th with us leaving on the 25th. Lotus have also eluded to the van being later than the 19th, so chances are increasing that we might have problems getting away on the 25th. Fingers and toes are still crossed though.
Wow.... Talk about cutting it fine... Good Luck @Holden_man and fingers crossed for you also!
