What a week it has been. Monday I got retrenched effective immediately. Sh1t happens, I will find more work.

The bugger today was starting the cruiser and it started smoking, under the bonnet! Then there was orange stuff too! Out with the fire extinguisher, looks like minor electrical damage caused by a faulty self resetting circuit breaker in the electric brake circuit.

Has stuffed up our weekend that we had planned for going away!

You dodged a bullet there by the looks of it.. if it had of kept burning into the loom you might not have been able to put it out..

as per above @crackacoldie not good on both counts, and yes very lucky Fire extinguisher was handy........

one of the reasons I did away with the self re-setting circuit breaker on my brakes...... if I stops working, I want to know and why........

I feel for you, on both accounts. Saw too many "restructures" and people shoved out so chose my own time and circumstances to be asked when I wanted out. Didn't totally ease my anger management for quite some time.
As to fires/burnouts, I've had 2, neither pretty.
Once while feeding a UHF coax in through dash there was a short and much current carrying smoke was released from Lucas inspired wiring in a Range Rover. Fortunately they had left in enough wiring to allow for right and left hand driving models so was only a matter of shortening many affected wires. Bugger all circuit isolation with individual fuses.
The other incident taught me that dry powder extinguishers aren't necessarily your friend. Car was on a dyno and I was in drivers seat. When I was asked to shut it down the clutch line blew out in the engine bay and it went up in flames. The extinguisher was used but the problem was the air cleaner was off and some went down there. It also takes some cleaning up.
